After I got the notification for the interview I responded right away. Since it's 8pm right now I decided that I am getting on a train and going to Maryland now.
I can't contain my excitement and I don't want to wait any longer. I gather all my belongings and head out of work and to my house.
It is currently Friday night and my interview is on Monday so what better way to do my touring through the weekend. Find some hot spots!
I park in the driveway of my house and get out looking at the rundown place. It's painted light blue and I smile now knowing exactly why I like the house with the white picket fence. I walk through the front door and smile softly seeing my mom in the living room chair watching Gilmore girls which she loves, with a hot tea in her hand. A soft fuzzy blanket is draped across her lap and she has a knitted light yellow hat on.
I walk over to her and take off her hat placing a kiss onto on her bald head. She looks up to me and smiles as she places her hand on my cheek that is now resting by hers and turns her head to kiss my cheek.
"Hi baby!" She softly croaks out.
"Hi mama." I smile softly as I make my way to kneel in front of her.
"How was work?"
"It was fine, I ate Chinese food." I giggle.
"Mmm sounds good." She smiles
"Are you hungry?" I ask a bit concerned and hoping she was able to make something while Mark aka my stepfather was at work. Hopefully he made her breakfast. Although the man is horrible, he does make time to make her food sometimes and check on her, he isn't completely useless.
"Oh I just ate hunny, thank you though."
"What did you eat?" I question hoping she isn't lying. She hates peoples doing things for her so she will simply lie every once in a while or not eat enough. So sometimes I ask just to make sure she is getting well fed.
"You don't need to do that you know." She looks at me and tries her hardest to be stern.
"Do what?" I ask, acting innocent with a lazy smile.
"I had some fruit and toast this morning, you happy?" She asks raising her eyebrow and smirking at me.
"Not quite...Hmm how about some chocolate chip pancakes, sounds like a good dessert to me!" I chuckle as I look at her with bright eyes.
"I'm just going to gain weight if y'all keep feeding me junk." She yells at me as I make my way into the kitchen.
"I don't think gaining weight really matters at this point anymore." I bite my tongue as the words spill out of my mouth and I curse myself.
I squeeze my eyes shut and wait for her comeback and when it doesn't come I feel instantly defeated.
My heart sinks as I walk over to her, her eyes low and she looks to the floor.
"I just mean-" I try to stumble out but she stops me mid sentence.
"I know what you meant." She says sadly.
Great. Why can't I keep my mouth shut.
She hates me bringing up her dying but I have had to watch her die more and more everyday, I have slowly accepted the fact and she hasn't.
"Order of chocolate chips pancakes are coming right up!" I say with a pointed finger in the air and I smile trying to cheer her up. She loosely smiles and then turns her head from me.
I make my way to the kitchen getting out all the ingredients and two cups of milk. Once I place three pancakes on each plate with light syrup I place them down on the TV trays in the living room.
