Once all my appointments were over I decided to order Chinese food to my work and began looking for houses in Maryland.
I have been scrolling for what feel like hours when I find one within my price range. It's small but it's only me who will be staying there. It has a white picket fence and a beautiful hand crafted garden with all different flowers and maybe some vegetables. The color of the house is blue, which isn't really my go to color but I surprisingly love it, I think it fits really well. The front porch is a small square with a table and two chairs, adding a small wooden swing beside it that connects to the ceiling.
Inside is seems a little more newer, gradient counters, gas stove, newly painted white cabinets and a small fridge. A small dining space with enough room for a four person table that is next to a large window that looks out beyond the woods.
The living room is off in the next room over and it's super cozy looking. Not very big but painted a light grey with three large windows, a fire place and enough room for a tv stand and a small couch.
Pass the living room is a hall that reaches to a door and the room is bigger than expected. A large window traces the side of the far wall and in front of it is a big window seal, lined with pillows. There is a walk in closet and a medium sized bathroom with a walk in shower and a bathtub.
The backyard is small but I won't really be back there. This place seems perfect.
I finish contacting the realtor when there is a knock at my door. I spring up from my chair and my stomach rumbles at the excitement for my Chinese food.
A smile reaches my face and instantly drops when I open the door and the cheesy smirk that belongs to Nick is holding my order. I knew I thought I smelt his scent. Ugh I really need to start using my senses more often so that I can hide out in these cases.
"Uhm hey?" I say more in a question.
"Hey I got your food for you!" He says in a perky tone.
"Thanks." I say with a monotone voice.
I snatch the bag from his hands and go to close the door when he wedges his foot in the crack and pushes it open.
My eyes widen at him and I push an awkward laugh.
"Uhm do you need something?" I say questioning his intrusion.
"No." He simply says as he makes his way further into my room and walks over to sit in my chair at my desk.
I silently watch his every move wondering what he could be doing and praying he leaves so I can indulge myself and watch a movie. I huff as I walk to the front of the desk and put my food down with a questioning look, raising one eyebrow.
"Uhm so...uhm...oh! you're looking for a house?" His voice comes out squeaky and I internally cringe, my face pulling with disgust.
My eyes go to my laptop and I close it with one hand as I huff. Must he be so nosey?
"It's not really any of your business, but yes."
"Oh that's nice." He responds as he looks around my office probably trying to think of something else to say so he can take up my time.
"Is that all?" I ask trying not to sound too rude.
"Always in a rush, Ms. Princeton!" He waves a discerning finger at me.
He kicks his feet up on my desk and I instantly shudder.
"Well you know me, very busy." I say as I push his feet off my desk and stand in front of him with my hands on my hips. "Now, thank you for bringing me my dinner but I need you to please leave now so I can eat because I'm starving." I say with a tight smile.
" Or I could stay..." he emphasizes and grins at me, standing up and tracing his index finger under my chin.
" Or you could leave..." I say with an annoyed breathy laugh.
"Hmm where's the fun in that?" He responds as he bites his lip and his gaze turns to my lips as he steps closer.
I put a hand to his chest and step back from him.
"Nick listen, I don't mean to sound rude but I'm just not interested. So please stop trying so hard." I cross my hands over my chest feeling a bit vulnerable but trying to remain confident. I don't want him to think I'm vulnerable ever, any man for that fact.
He takes a step back and his eyes gaze me up and down and he finally lets out a sigh.
"I'm sorry Azalea. You're just a beautiful girl and I just want one date, please."
"I'm sorry but as I said I'm not interested and besides I'm moving soon so there would be no point."
"One date and no more flirting. I promise. Come on just one, I think you will actually enjoy it. I'm quite the charmer."
I roll my eyes with a slight laugh. Nick is kinda a creep but he isn't entirely ugly and he is kinda nice, maybe just one date won't hurt so he can finally leave me alone.
"Fine, one date and that's it. Understand?"
"Yes! I mean yes... I'll pick you up next Friday night after work, say around 8?" He stumbles his words.
"Sure." I reply with a small side smile before I walk to the door and begin to close it as he walks out with a million dollar smile.
"You won't regret it Azalea!" He yells as he walks backwards down the hall.
"Oh I doubt that." I whisper as I shut the door and lock it, making my way back over to my desk to sit down to eat.
Ahhh finally some peace and quiet. I pop open the lid on my noodles and steak and dig in, I find a scary movie on Netflix and smile as it begins.
The rumble in my stomach settles and I keep stuffing my mouth because it still isn't enough to satisfy me. After I'm done and the movie ends I keep searching for more houses to look at, keeping the house with the white picket fence in the back of my mind.
Eventually my eyes start to sting and my head falls down slowly resting on the desk and my eyes seal shut.
My computer dings and the sound jolts me awake, I move the mouse to turn in on, my eyes widen in shock to see the work position in Maryland has contacted me for an interview.
