Mr. Novak’s POV
I was at home, making lunches, for Gabriel and I. He has lived with me for about a year, because some stuff went down at home, and I eventually got legal custody.
Gabriel is in 12th, along with Dean.
He came strolling into the kitchen. “Morning, Cas!” He over happily remarked.
“Good morning, brother,” I replied, still making food, and thinking about how my happiness was cut short yesterday.
“I’ve been meaning to ask you something, Cas,” he started, slightly worrying me. “How come you’ve been staying at school later than usual?” He leaned on the counter next to me.
My mind came up with several paths this could take, and how I could lie my way out of it. “Well, that one night, I had to stay and watch Dean at detention. Other than that, I’ve just been busy.”
“Busy with what?” He inquired further.
I sighed. “Teacher stuff, Gabriel.”
He chuckled. “That doesn’t tell me a whole lot.”
I glared at him. “Why do you care so much?” I was seriously getting annoyed.
“Because I know something is up, and you should tell me.” He had that damned smirk on as usual.
I rolled my eyes and handed him his lunchbox. “There is nothing going on. Even if there was, I wouldn’t tell you.”
I walked past him, and grabbed my keys and a long, tan trench coat to protect myself from the extremely cold winter air.
“You really are stubborn, Cas,” Gabriel said, following me out of the front door.
“Get in the car and be quiet, Gabriel.”
On the drive to school, I kept thinking about Dean, and those two moments we’ve had to together. Hopefully he does something stupid enough in my class to get detention. Either way he’d stay after, but I’d rather him have a valid reason to do so. It’d also not get Gabriel questioning me, or Dean’s brother calling him again. Ugh. I hated that.
“Castiel!” Gabriel shouted, snapping me out of my thoughts. “We’re at school.”
I shook my head. “My apologies. Just got caught up in my thoughts.”
He laughed. “Ooooo. Was it about a certain someone?” He wiggled his eyebrows. “Or was it boring business like usual with you?”
I opened the car. “You already know the answer to that.”
He sighed, and got out of the car. “Of course. Never any fun.”
“Go to class, Gabriel,” I coldly said as we walked into the school.
“Okay. I’ll be walking home today, by the way. I wanna hang out with Garth after school.”
“Don’t get into any trouble with him.” I looked at him with seriousness.
“Pfft. You can trust me, brother.” He walked off laughing.
I find that hard to believe.
