7. A Father he deserves

Rohit was for the first time, unable to process what happened and unable to react to it. He kept pacing in is room, Ronak was in his room with Pooja and Ajit and Sona was up on the terrace alone, she wanted some time out for herself and here he was, doing nothing. He held his head, whatever Ronak said was out of the line and he could see how heartbroken his wife was, more than that, the pain of a mother was quite visible to all. But then, Ronak was a kid, and to react to him in an aggressive manner would only increase the problem. 

"May I come in?" 

He heard a soft knock at the already open door and nodded at his mother, "Sona?"

"She is still upstairs, the Rastogis are with her." Veena said as she stood besides her son, "and Ronak is fine, he is with Ajit and Pooja, they are playing video games and helping him calm down." 

Rohit took a deep breath, facing his sweet mother, "what do I do?"

"You already did, Rohit. You already did."

"Mom..."

"Kya mom?" Veena shook her head, disappointed in him and he averted his gaze. "Ronak baccha hai Rohit, he looks upto to his parents, his family and bacche sirf wahi bolte hai jo unhe samjhaya jaata hai." 

"Mom," Rohit was frustrated at the accusation, "I never told Ronak anything like that."

"You indirectly did, Rohit," Veena said, she felt the need to intervene now before this could take a disastrous turn on the trio. "You always fought with Sona on the same thing, time and again you pointed at her work, her job, and I agree with you that Sona is very busy and needs to give some time to Ronak but to demean her work, demean her esteem? I can never side you on that Rohit, in fact, no one will." 

Rohit gulped, looking at his mother, this time not answering back.

"Aren't you also busy lately with your hospital work? Over the past year I have never seen you home at all, and I know Sona also complains about you not finding time for the family but have you ever seen Sona talk ill about your work? Or has she ever taunted your job? Or ever made Ronak feel that his dad is not giving him time?"

Rohit remembered how Sonakshi had been there when he was pre-occupied with an urgent case, and how much she respected his work and made their son seem like it was the most important job in the world. There were times when he also did not come home, many a times he had to go outstation for conferences, and every time he came home, Ronak only asked what he did there.

He wanted to know what his superhero dad and how many lives he saved. Sonakshi only spoke highly for Rohit's profession and here he was, openly degrading her job, comparing it others and destroying her self-esteem in front of their kid.

"Never Rohit, Sona never spoke anything remotely bad about you to your son. Every single time, she made sure that Ronak always respects his father and his very important work, and you? Apne gusse mein tumne ussse kya kuch nahi kaha, and why, just because she is busy earning? You did know that she was a growing TV Actress and you have seen how hard and tiring the jobs are. Phir bhi?"
