Dream didn't whine. Not on purpose. He wasn't a baby. He wasn't immature like Tommy. But when you're hungry and tired and you just woke up from fainting it's a bit different.

"I'm honeyyyyy" Dream whined embarrassingly, not willing to open his eyes yet.

     What? His mother/parent questioned.

"Hungry" Dream mumbled, curling into himself.

Oh. Have you not been getting the magic this tree has been sending you?

Dream opened his eyes squinting, barely processing, until launching up exclaiming, "YOU'VE BEEN WHAT?!"

Dream felt a rush of dizziness hit him, black spots filling his vision like when he fainted which was out of his control and he need-

Dream was cut off by the muffled sound of someone's voice.

"Wha-" he was quickly cut off by the voice which he now recognized as his tree mom

This tree noticed that something was off... ..Should've noticed sooner...

His parent was murmuring to itself now.

"So..." Dream thought aloud, "Was that the weird feeling I've been having? Your magic? I thought it was something bad."

The young one has no need to worry. I hope you can start accepting it now. His parent replied.

It will not be this way forever, the young ones will not be able to rely on my magic alone forever. His parent continued.

     Dream found himself blinking tiredly.

It seems that the young one is tired. Get some rest young one.

Dream began to argue but was interrupted by his mother

The young one and this tree both know you would rather sleep voluntarily than faint again, no?

     Dream huffed. Darn it.

...He couldn't remember the last time he felt safe enough to go to sleep voluntarily... He wasn't sure if he ever had... Dream tried to stifle the horrible feeling he felt when he noticed his eyes droop and closed his eyes fully. He took deep breaths and eventually was bathed in darkness once more. The last thing he felt was his mothers magic gently wash over him as he fell asleep.

He woke up. He felt much better now.

...He still didn't need to sleep though. He was only sleeping because he wanted to.

Dream took a deep breath in and out. Everything was okay. He was under control.

     ...A few more months later...

Everything was not under control. The past few months had been chaotic. His, mentally, younger brother had started to explore the tree more and kept stumbling and nearly falling. Dream had to keep an eye on his brother whenever he woke not only because of that but because he was getting increasingly better at getting out of his sight. He had once even ended up on one of the tree branches somehow!

On the bright side Dream had been getting better at walking, though he decided that crawling was more efficient for now. He overheard his mother murmuring in the early morning that it had been year since his and his brother's creation. So he guessed today was their birthday. Which was the only reason he was even up at this hour. It had been pretty early when their mother had mentioned it and it was still early.
