It Had Been A Year

It had been a year since Dream was remade in this world. The passing of his and Nightmare's first birthday made that clear... He wondered if it was close to Christmas by now. When he was brought here it had already passed Christmas so it may have already passed... Then there was the possibility that time may be different here...

Dream shook himself. He didn't need to think about that anymore.

     He's no longer there.

He may not even be able to find a way back.

Even if he did find his way back, he might not be recognized.

Did his server collapse? Or are Callahan and the others taking care of it now?

Last but not least... He doesn't need to worry about the server.

And isn't that a terrifying thought. He always needed to worry about the unity of the server and everyone in it. He needed to worry about others backstabbing him, greifers, conflicts, and so on. Not to mention his Friend- Attachments. He needed to worry about attachments.

He needed to be prepared for any possibility.

Dream frustratedly realized he was beginning to sound like Techno in the last one. Know what? He didn't have to deal with this. Dream wasn't going to think about it. He's going to talk to his adorable younger brother.

     'The young ones are twins

"I said that last bit out loud." It wasn't a question.

'Indeed the young one has' an increasingly familiar voice said fondly.

Dream felt himself flush in embarrassment.

"He's just so- So..." Dream tried to justify, trailing off.

Dream could feel how smug his mother was becoming. Literally. He could swear right around now. He didn't want his brother hearing and repeating it though. Dream huffed loudly.

Dream turned his attention to his younger brother and gasped. There. Nightmare was. Standing up while leaning against the tree. With an adorably focused expression that only toddlers could pull off and Dream wanted to coo at.

So Dream did coo at him. Which caused him to lose focus and stumble. Dream rushed to his brother's side as fast as his own toddler legs could take him. Dream caught him before he could fall and immediately started questioning "Is anything hurt? Bro'en? Are you alright?!"

"I's alright Bubba" his younger brother assured, trying to make his voice sound serious.

Dream sighed in relief, he seemed to be doing that a lot since coming here.

"You alright?" The younger questioned, still making an attempt to be serious.

Dream blinked in surprise. When was the last time someone had asked... Dream shook his head, then nodded.

     "I'm alright" Dream sighed.

His brother stared at him for a moment. Dream shifted.

"O'ay!" His brother cheered and went back to what he was doing.

Dream wasn't sure how he felt about his brother being so trusting towards him. Sure it was adorable, but another part of him screeched that he was an attachment. He could be his own brother's weakness. Dream then scolded and reminded himself that George and Sapnap were fine, not mentioning that he hadn't seen them for a while before he was here. Dream was smart enough to make sure no one could use his brother against him and if they did it would surely not go unpunished.

Dream hummed to himself. He was now wondering about when it was. It had been days since his and Nightmare's birthday, even if their birthday was around Christmas, it was at least in winter or fall if the colder time of year was anything to go by, Christmas may have already passed. His brother may have young and not likely to remember it, but Dream was disappointed they missed his brother's first Christmas.

Dream refocused on said brother and noticed him standing up once more. Both Dream and the other tensed in anticipation. After what seemed like a minute go by his brother relaxed. This made Dream less stiff but still a little tense. His brother took a step, arms around the tree.

Dream's brother moved so that his arms were steadying himself against the tree, instead of wrapped around. His brother took a shaky step. Dream watched as his brother slowly pushed off of the tree, taking unsteady steps all the way. After what seemed forever his brother took the last hand he still had on the tree. They both held their breaths as he wobbled, then sighed in relief when he remained steady.

Everything slowed down for Dream as he watched his younger brother take his first step. It was still shaky, as his other steps had been, but the seeing look of pride on his brother's face made it worth the anxiety. Dream tensed as his brother took another, more wobbly step. Dream was ready to rush over when his brother fell but was pleasantly relieved when his brother did not fall. His brother, seeming to gain confidence, looked up to face him. Dream was then panicked by his brother stumbling towards him at a faster pace then his earlier unsteady steps.

Dream wanted to get up but found himself frozen. One part panicking and the other part wanting to see if his brother could make it. As his brother stumbled increasingly Dream found himself silently panicking more. Then the universe decided that that was the perfect time for his brother to stumble on one of their mother's roots. Dream nearly lunged over to catch him but the other simply fell into his arms, making Dream sigh in relief when he thankfully landed into his arms, having got close enough to do so.

Dream felt his heart rate return to normal- did he even have a heart?- and he sighed once more. He felt his brother shift in his arms and looked at him. Dream felt himself smile at him and loosened his, now that he thought about it it was quite tight, grip on him.

"You did a 'ood(good) job" Dream told his younger brother, proud tears coming to his eyes.

Said brother looking at him and blinking tears owlishly from his eyes.

"But I mess up?" he questioned.

"You made it to me, didn't you?" Dream questioned back.

      "...Yes." His brother replied.

"Then you did 'ood!" Dream assured. He knew how difficult it was to walk in such a young body now. The feeling of pride and awe that he felt made him feel a bit overwhelmed.

There was silence for a moment then "Oof" Dream felt his brother barrel into him for a hug. Dream hesitated,- it was attachment he was getting- but he slowly wrapped his arms around his brother. Nothing was bothering them. It was just them and their mother. He didn't have to worry about attachments or things.

Dream could relax. He had a happy family. Dream felt himself yawn. Sure he didn't need sleep(keep telling yourself that) but he was having a pretty good day. He could let himself relax.

His brother also seemed to be getting tired anyway. Dream's body would force him to sleep if didn't.

"Night night" Dream curled around his brother.

His brother giggled and failed to repress a yawn "Night..."

It had been a year since arriving here- No. It had been a year since he had been born here. Dream had gained a happy family. He didn't know when his old one wasn't happy anymore. He didn't worry about that though. He was sleeping with his happy family after all.

...Dream still missed them... George, Sapnap, and everyone else he was close to.

Before he could dwell on that, Dream found himself being lulled asleep to his brother's soft snoring.
