The sound of rushing water echoed through the caverns as Frisky moved onwards, watching the stones sparkle around him. Stalactites and stalagmites bordered the one-way trail that left Snowdic, adorned with shining rocks. He couldn't help but wonder how much they would be worth on the surface.
The surface... he'd almost forgotten. Papyrus made it seem like he could just talk to Asgore and go home... but if that were the case, why wouldn't humans who passed through here spread the word about monsters? Torrin had mentioned others before him. What had happened to them? Was he serious about the death-fucking thing?
A loud CLANG from above interrupted Frisky's thoughts. The light was dim, but it looked like a knight was standing on an elevated ledge of rock not too far from him.
Cautiously, the human backed away into a patch of tall grass. Hopefully he hadn't been spotted.
Papyrus's voice broke the tense silence. It sounded like he was next to the knight, but the echoes made it hard to say for sure.
"ABOUT THAT HUMAN I MENTIONED EARLIER..." the skeleton said. Frisky could hear the hesitancy in his voice.
The knight responded, but their low and gruff voice was impossible to hear over the rushing water. For once Frisky appreciated how loud Papyrus was.
"YES, I FOUGHT HIM, BUT... ULTIMATELY, I... I FAILED TO CAPTURE HIM."
The knight raised their voice, but it was still difficult to make out what they were saying.
"WAIT, NOKYEL! YOU DON'T HAVE TO HURT HIM! HE'S..."
"...I UNDERSTAND. I'LL HELP IN ANY WAY POSSIBLE."
Papyrus turned away from the knight and walked gloomily into the darkness. Frisky sighed in relief and stepped forward through the tall grass.
A loud WHOOSH from the ledge stopped him in his tracks. The knight stepped towards him, scanning the grass for the source of the noise.
After a few moments the figure stepped away from the edge, seemingly content with their search. Their eye glinted as they stepped back into the darkness.
