Theresa smiled the second she saw Cassie. She jumped out of her car and sprinted up the driveway, the late summer sun blinding her eyes. She and Cassie fell into each other's arms, screaming how much they missed each other.

"Theresa, I've missed you so fucking much," Cassie laughed, a small tear forming in her eye.

"Not as much as I missed you," Theresa replied with a smile.

It was Theresa's first time seeing her best friend Cassie in a while. Theresa had grown up going to East Highland, but last summer, right before her junior year was supposed to start, her parents divorced. It was a tough time for everyone in the family. Her dad moved 30 minutes away from town.

Theresa's parents had split custody of her and her brother. Theresa was originally planning on staying at East Highland, in her mom's house. But then, one night that summer, something bad happened. Theresa was so traumatized, she wanted to get away from it all. She decided that moving in with her dad, in his new town, was the best option for her mental health. She hated thinking about that night. The night everything changed.

Things were good for a while with Theresa and her dad. Even though she was at a new school, she felt happy to have a fresh start. It was good for her to get away from East Highland. Then, Theresa met her dads new girlfriend, the woman he had left her mom for. Her name was Charlotte and was barely older than Theresa. Charlotte moved in with Theresa and her dad during the school year and started making Theresa's life a living hell. Everything Charlotte wanted, Charlotte got. Charlotte even started arguing with Theresa all the time. Soon, Theresa's dad was making her less and less of a priority. A few weeks ago, they got into a huge argument, and she decided she's had enough of living with her dad. It was time to move back to East Highland and live with her mom and younger brother. Her dad had moved on, and now it was time she did too.

They both entered Cassie's house and walked straight to the room she shared with Lexi. The floor was covered in clothes, makeup, and books for when school would start next week. It was just like Theresa remembered it.

When Theresa entered the room, she was bombarded with hugs and shouts from Lexi, Kat, and BB. Theresa took a seat on the floor, leaning against Lexi's bed.

"Girl you are looking so good, you look different from when I saw you last!" BB shouted as she took a hit from her juul.

Theresa smiled. She wasn't one to admit it, because she hated people who fished for attention, but she did look different from when she left East Highland a year ago. She was an inch taller, tan from the summer sun, and her body had developed more, making her slightly curvier. She got up and looked at herself in Cassie's mirror. Her reddish-brown hair looked like caramel in the light, and her freckles were very prominent. Theresa was half Irish half Puerto Rican, and her mom always liked to joke that she got the best features from both ethnicities.

"Thanks, BB," she smiled.

"So tell us about your junior year at private school," Maddie smirked. "How are the guys there? Tell us everything."

BB passed Theresa the juul and she hit it. "My dad said he always wanted me and my brother to go to Catholic school, so I didn't fight him on it. But honestly, it sucked. We had to wear uniforms, and it was super strict and suffocating. The girls there were super fucking rude, and I even found out one of them called me dumb behind my back, even though my grades were just as good. They just think everyone who goes to public school is trash."

"What a fucking bitch," Kat said, as she scrolled on her phone. "Theresa you're one of the smartest girls in our whole grade. Definitely the smartest one in this group." Everyone laughed, agreeing with her. It was no secret that Theresa got really good grades. Even though she loved to party and have fun, she had big goals. She wanted to go to med school one day, and she knew she had already applied to UCLA.

"I was talking to one guy while I was there," Theresa continued. "His name is Alex. We were getting pretty serious, going on dates all the time and stuff. He told me that he really liked me."

The girls eyes lit up with excitement. "So what happened?" asked Lexi.

Theresa gave Cassie a sad look. She had already told Cassie on facetime about what had happened.

"I found out a few weeks ago that he was hooking up with another girl at our school the whole time," Theresa said. Her voice was full of disappointment. "It really hurt. If I'm being honest guys, I'm super stressed out about him, my family, and the move and everything. I just wanna take my mind off it."

BB smiled. "I know what we gotta do, bitch. Lets smoke. Do you have any rolling papers Cass?"

Cassie shook her head no. "Let's just go get some. I'm bored anyway."

Theresa's heart started pounding. There was only one place in town where you could get rolling papers at 17.

"Oh I don't know guys," Theresa said as she started to nervously blush. "We don't have to smoke, it's totally fine."

Maddie smiled mischievously. Everyone knew why Theresa was blushing.

"Come on T," Maddie said, standing up and grabbing Theresa's hand. "You haven't seen him in a minute."
