Theresa wasn't in a good place after Fezco basically rejected her. She knew he had high hopes for her future, and he didn't want her to date a drug dealer. But she didn't care. I mean, they had been best friends for years, and it was never a problem. 

It was the Saturday after she went over to Fez's house. Theresa sat in her bed, watching Vampire Diaries and eating popcorn. The room was pitch black, just the soft glow of the TV emitting light. She hadn't showered in 2 days, and she had barely eaten, which was highly unlike her. Her mom slept all day, because she was always exhausted from working nights. Jonah was hanging with friends. Theresa felt heartbroken and discouraged. This is probably why the rest of the night went like this:

Theresa heard her phone buzz. She grabbed it, hoping it was Fezco texting her. She rolled her eyes in disappointment when she saw it was Cassie. 

Cassie: party tonight at McKays

T: sorry cass i don't really feel up to it. fez basically told me he doesn't want to be with me, because he doesn't want me to get wrapped up in like, his drug shit.

Cassie: i mean that's actually super sweet of him to care about u like that

T: yea, it is sweet. but it still hurts. you know how i feel about him. he's like my soulmate 

Cassie: you cant mope about him forever. if he doesn't want to date you, then just forget about it. hook up with someone else. at least just come to the party to get this off ur mind

Theresa really didn't want to hook up with any other guy, but maybe the party would get Fez off of her mind. If he didn't want to be with her, then she might as well move on. It was better than sitting alone watching the Vampire Diaries for the 80th time. 

T: fine. ill be over ur house at 9

Her phone vibrated again. It was Cody. They had been texting throughout the week about homework. AP Chem was challenging, but he really seemed to know what he was doing. 

Cody: hey, u going to McKay's tonight?

T: ya, i guess i am

Cody: sweet. see you there

Theresa, Maddie, Cassie, and Lexi opened the door to McKay's house. They were instantly hit with loud music and dim blue light. People were bustling around the house talking, drinking, and smoking. Theresa smiled and pulled the water bottle filled with vodka and cranberry juice out of her backpack. They had arrived at the right time, and she was ready to get fucked up. 

Cassie went to go find McKay, and Theresa and Lexi walked through the house, sipping on their drinks. 

"Let's blackout tonight T," Maddie said, holding Theresa's hand as she led her through the kitchen. Theresa suddenly saw a tall her girl with thick, curly brown hair wearing a loose t-shirt. 

"Rue!" she shouted. Rue saw her and ran over to her, giving her a huge hug. 

"I haven't seen you in so long, T!" Rue shouted. She looked genuinely happy, which made Theresa feel good. The last time she had seen Rue, she was on an opioid bender. Theresa wasn't sure if Rue had gotten clean or not, but she did look a lot healthier and happier than before. 

The girls went into the living room area and mingled with the rest of the guests. Cash Shit by Meg Thee Stallion blasted overhead on the speakers. Theresa and the girls started dancing and rapping along to Meg. She could feel herself starting to get drunk. As she danced amongst the flashing blue lights, she felt genuinely confident. Rue twirled her around, and Theresa couldn't stop laughing. Suddenly, she felt a tap on her shoulder. She turned around to see a tall figure.
