Theresa sat in her classroom seat the next morning, feeling tired and anxious. Her hair was up in a ratty, messy bun and she was wearing her brothers sweatshirt. She still felt mildly hungover from the party, where she had drunk way too much tequila and ended up puking the entire next day. But as bad as her body felt, nothing could compare to where her mind was at. She couldn't stop thinking about her argument with Fezco, the blonde girl sitting in his lap....

As much as Theresa wanted to move on from him, her heart wouldn't let her. She needed to distract herself, do something good for her (well maybe not good for her, but at least something to clear her head a bit). While her teacher wasn't looking, Theresa slid a tiny note to Cody, who sat beside her.

wanna come over after school? cheer is cancelled today

Cody slowly unfolded the note and read it. He smiled and nodded.

Later that evening, Theresa opened her door to the quiet ring of the bell. Cody stood on her steps, his hair shining in the fluorescent porch light.

"Hey," she smiled and let him into the house. Cody looked around. Theresa tried not to feel embarrassed about her tiny, modest home.

"Thanks for inviting me over," he smiled. "Is your family here?"

Theresa shrugged her shoulders. "My mom works nights, and my brother spends most of his evenings with his friends. It's just me usually."

Cody looked genuinely sad. "Don't you ever get lonely?" He walked around the living room, his finger grazing a picture of Theresa as a child.

"Sometimes," she replied. "I don't mind spending time by myself. But I'm glad you're here."

She leaned in to kiss him. She didn't care that Fezco was in the back of her mind. She just needed someone. Cody's lips met hers, and they slowly moved to Theresa's room.

Flashback

Sixteen-year-old Theresa lay on Fezco's bed. It was a stormy summer night, thunder and lightning flashed throughout the dark room. Theresa and Fezco lay there passionately kissing, their bodies intertwined with one another. Theresa had never felt anything like kissing him. Chills rushed throughout her entire body. Lightning flashed, illuminating his body on top of hers. At that moment, he was the only boy she could ever picture being with.

"I love you, T" he whispered in her ear.
