Layla's POV
I pulled Peter into mom's room with Edmund and Lucy right behind us. Mom lay there, her monitors beeping quietly. She turned her head when we came in.
"Hey, mother, I hope you had a good rest. I brought a few friends with me."
She smiled, "You must be those kings and queens of that magical place I've heard so much about."
The Pevensies looked at each other before greeting her.
Edmund and Lucy walked over to her bed side. "Yes, ma'am, Layla said you wished to see us."
"What a wonderful group you are. Yes, Aslan's been kind to me," she stretched her hand out to Peter. "Come sonny, don't be shy. Layla's lucky to have you."
I gently pushed him over to her.
"I'm sorry you had to deal with all the trouble of being here. One must be strong in such a time as this."
Peter sat down next to her bed and took her hand. "I tried, ma'am. I do want the best for your daughter, but it's been hard. Since coming back." He looked at Edmund and Lucy who nodded.
Mom sighed, "well that is the hard part. But the best part of it is getting to go back one day."
"You know what He meant by going back? Back to Narnia?" Lucy asked.
"No, I do not, unfortunately. All I know is that no one knows the day nor the hour not even Aslan himself. We must just simply hope that we are ready."
"I moved in with Peter, and Professor Kirke, mother," I spoke up. "Hopefully, that'll help."
"Ah, yes, dear old Digory, such a good friend he and Polly were. I remember all those adventures they told me about. Is he still cooped up in that enormous house of his all by himself?" Mother questioned.
"No, ma'am," Peter explained, "he's got a small house in the country and little room for the wardrobe."
Mother chuckled, "still hanging onto that cumbersome closet, made it from that Apple he brought back for his mother."
"Wardrobe, mother," I corrected, squeezing her shoulder before checking her heart rate monitor.
"Yes, of course dear," mother smiled and patted my hand.
Mother brushed her finger over Peter's necklace that dangled close to her arm. "My daughter has taken good care of you guys as I can see. She's always been so helpful even for someone like me."
"I think you should get some rest mother," I kissed her forehead before motioning the others to leave. "Come now."

Peter's POV
I stood up to follow Layla and my siblings when Mrs. Crumé caught my hand. I looked at her.
"Please, take great care of my dear daughter, sonny, I can't imagine her with any other man. I don't want her to over-stress herself and she needs someone to help her when I'm gone," she said. "I know her father does not approve of you but you have my blessing."
I looked at the moon. She knew I wanted to marry her?
"I understand it's a lot to process but please for me....and her."
I turned my gaze back at the woman in bed, "I-um." I gulped, "I will, ma'am. You're daughter will be well looked after."
She looked back at the ceiling, "that I have no doubt of. You'll make a fine husband for her."
