It's been almost a week since I started staying with Peter in Professor Kirke's small house. It was a snug fit but I didn't mind sharing a room with Peter. I kinda liked it. Peter still worked hard at his studies with Professor Kirke and the daily disputes he had with father didn't help us much. Father even went far as to threaten to come find me and drag me back home by force. It never happened though and I thank Aslan for that. We've also had a few run-ins with Asher, even Edmund and Lucy had their own run-ins too. I have to admit, I was a tad disappointed in how our relationship had gotten strained.
"He's a total asshole, Layla," Edmund had told me one day when I had joined him and Lucy on their errand run for their aunt and uncle. "I wouldn't be worried about it."
Honestly, he was right. Why was I disappointed? I was on my own now with the best people in the world.
Professor Kirke was happy to have me in the little house and I do say I missed seeing him.
"I'm happy you joined us, Layla," He had smiled. "Peter certainly seems happy you're here."
I had blushed at this. "Thank you, sir. I was in need of a better environment."
I smiled at the memory, it was just a few days ago.
I glanced over at where Peter sat at a desk nearby working then at the Professor sitting in a comfy chair reading.
"Professor, do you think the moon could ever be healed?" I asked.
Professor Kirk looked up at me over his spectacles and smiled gently. "Well, miss, I can't say that it will or that it won't. Such things like the moon necklace wasn't around when I visited Narnia. Adventures like this back in my day never consisted of what you young ones experienced. I'm sure Aslan knows how though and he'll reveal it to you soon."
He looked thoughtful for a moment, "all I can say, is to take it one day at a time."
I looked down at my hands and sighed. At least I was out of the worst danger. "How would I know if it ever will heal?"
"Oh, I'm sure you'll know when it happens," he winked at me.
I stood up and headed to to my room pondering what Professor Kirk had said. When would it return to the moon halves that they were and what would it be like? I've been through a lot but the moon cracking was kinda rough. I'm trying Aslan, I sighed.
I opened the door to the room I slept in. The room was strangely dark and it didn't smell like my room. It smelled like a....dungeon?
"Layla?" Two very familiar voices asked.
My eyes quickly adjusted to the darkness and it was indeed a dungeon cell. Edmund, Caspian and an old man were there all looking surprised at my sudden appearance.
I grinned, "I'm back." I gripped both boys in a bear hug even though I've practically just seen Edmund yesterday.
"I'm glad you're here, Layla." Edmund spoke up.
"Are you ok?" I asked him, noticing the cut on his lip. "And where's Lucy?"
"I'm fine, and Lucy's going to be sold to those slave traders." He explained.
"Slave Traders?!?" I exclaimed. "Since when did the Lone Islands have Slave Traders?"
"It's been like this for few years, Guardian," the old man explained.
"And who might you be?" I asked.
"Oh, Layla, this is Lord Bern. One of my father's closest friends and advisors." Caspian explained.
I grinned, "glad to meet you, my Lord." I turned to the boys, going back to being serious. "I'm breaking you all out."
"How are you going to do that?" Edmund asked and I smiled bigger.
