I marched through the backyard of my father'a house. Asher on my heels.
"Layla, your father wants what is good for you," Asher tried explaining.
"You mean what's good for him, what about what works for me!" I protested.
"Your father did mention you had a temper," Asher noted. "You never really liked change."
We entered a small gazebo nearby and I plopped down on a nearby bench. "Things have changed since we were younger, Asher. Were almost adults now."
Asher sat down next to me.
"Father thought sending me to the country would help clear things up but he said that it just made things worse. I was free from my father's demand," I touched the necklace. "And I earned the best memory there. Coming back here, is even worse. Father seems to expect more and his demands are more frequent."
He put a hand on my knee. "To be honest this whole deal with your father is new to me too, but we could do so much more together and I can help you with your father."
I searched his face and he smiled gently at me. I remembered what Aslan had told me before I left......Narnia. My one and only home. Don't let others change you.
I brushed a stray lock of hair from my face and looked across the lawn at the flower bushes.
"We could take this one step at a time. I can promise everything will get better," he moved closer and I looked back at him, "and life will be much better for you."
I sighed, oh where are you Peter?
