Layla's POV

The day mum died, was the day Peter had to leave for the war. I still didn't like it. Guardian or not, I didn't want him to go.

"I still don't want you to leave," I muttered, not bothering to look up at him. We all had gathered at the train station to see him off and Peter and I were saying our goodbye.

"Don't worry, Layla. I'll have my moon with me and I'll come back." He brushed his thumb over my cheek. "I made a promise and I intend to keep it."

I searched his face, wanting to imprint his face in my mind.

"I'll try not to die out there."

I sighed.

"Don't worry Layla, Edmund and Lucy will be here."

Edmund and Lucy nodded at this.

"But-, how will I know if you are still ok, or," I didn't know what else to think,
I did mention what my duty was. "Five years doesn't sound very good and I don't want to be a sitting duck."

Peter just smiled softly, "trust me. Ok?"

I paused for a few minutes before giving him a little peck, "alright, but you've got to keep me updated every day, k?"

He smiled again, "Deal," and kissed me back.

Lucy grinned, "alright, let us say goodbye
too."

I moved back and watched them.

"Remember, this isn't like leading a Narnian army."

Peter smiled and squeezed Edmund's shoulder, "Of course."

"We'll have a big party when you return!" Lucy exclaimed excitedly.

He squeezed her tightly, "I'm sure you will."

"All a board!" The announcement rang.

Peter looked at the train, then at me. "Sounds like that's my cue to leave." He touched my face, before picking up his luggage and stepping on the train.

I walked up to the edge of the train platform as the train pulled out.  I gulped, "Call me," I pleaded over the noice of the train engine.

I saw that sly smile I loved so much cross his face.

"Yes, Ma'am."
