Chapter 16 - The Laws Of Love

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

"Where's the car dufus?" I asked for the hundredth time.

"It's right up the road, just a little more."

"That's what you said an hour ago Rian."

He didn't reply so, I continued.

"And why would you leave our phones in the car? Why not bring them? Wouldn't that have been a smart idea? Oh wait, it's you were talking about. The person who stole my car and then, somehow, made it stop running." I smirked over at him, which he probably didn't see because of the darkness that filled the space between us.

"Whatever." He huffed.

"And I thought you were the adult here..." I muttered mostly to myself.

"I heard that, you know." He stated obviously annoyed with me ragging on him. I do, however, think I reserve the right to.

"Good."

The never ending trip to my car suddenly came to halt as, it's outline became distinct to me through the night. I would have ran to it and gladly taken a seat inside after these hours of standing and walking but, I currently held onto a quarter of the files.

Yes, only a quarter. Rian's carrying the rest. Mwhuahua.

We arrived at my car, which had been stolen hours earlier by my suspected-soon-to-be-killer-that-didn't-kill-me-because-it-was-Rian-playing-a-prank-after-he-slaughtered-my-car's-engine.

He has some nice stratigies on delivering the news.

I set the pile of files into the back seat, Rian mimicked my motion, and set his files in the spot too. I popped open the trunk and searched around for the flashlight my dad gave me in case of emergencies. Thanks dad.

I walked to the front of the car, and signaled Rian to pop the hood. Shouldn't he have tried this? He is a guy, are they not suppose to know all about cars?

I latched the hood in the air and pointed the light around the engine. Mhmm, just what I thought. I have no clue what I'm doing.

"You really don't know how to work on this?" I asked desperately.

He ran his hand over his face and through his hair, "I'm sorry."

"I -"  Almost like a ton of bricks hitting me, my brain clicked, giving me what could possibly be considered the best idea ever.

I abandoned the engine and our conversation ,and reached inside the car, grabbing my phone in the process. Scrolling through my contacts, I found the person I was looking for - Logan.

Rinnng. Rinnnggggggggggg. Rinnnggggggggggggggggg.

"What's the dealio pretty lady?" Logan's voice fell into my ear, causing me to chuckle.

"Broke down on the side of the road, in the middle of nowhere. You know, the usual."

"Are you okay? Are you hurt?" He asked panicky, probably thinking I crashed or had injured my self somehow.

"Chyeah, I'm fine."

"How did your car break down? What did it do?" He asked, trying to diagnose my car.

"Well,  Rian stole my car and in that timeframe, he managed to break it."

"Is he with you still?" He asked cautiously, obviously not liking the sound of me being alone out here.
