I sat on one side of a booth, at my favorite restaurant, Chili's. A pen in one hand, the other securing the paper or napkin still.
"Logan,
'The problem with time, I've learned, whether it's those first two weeks I got to spend with you, or the final two months I got to spend with him, eventually time always runs out. I have no idea where you are out there in the world, Logan. But I understand that I lost the right to know these things long ago. No matter how many years go by, I know one thing to be as true as ever was - I'll see you soon then.'
Your Best Friend Forever,
Marissa"
Logan's loud and attention-drawing laughter broke the noise barrier in the small restaurant, causing everyone to curiously look our way. I tried to calm Logan down but, his contagious laughter spread through me like a wildfire. I broke out into my own laugh and there we sat, clutching our stomachs, with tears prickling the corners of our eyes.
"Y-you sounded," His erupting laugh caused him to break the sentence, " you sounded just like her!" He sighed,as his chest heaved up and down and he wiped the small tears from his cheeks.
"I know!" I chuckled, mimicking his previous actions. Get yourself together, Marissa, get it together.
We both chuckled lowly to ourselves, reliving the moment that happened mere seconds ago.
Logan reached for his sweet tea, sliding it towards him, and taking a long sip. Then, he sat straight once again, "How did you even memorize that? I thought it was the first time you've seen it." He asked, talking about 'Dear John', the movie we watched last night.
"It wasn't my first time I've seen it." I said slightly covering my face with my hand. His eyebrows rose questioningly and curious,as to why I had told him it was before.
"I only told you that because," I stopped myself, "did you see how much I was crying?" I asked instead.
"Yeah, like a wittle baby." He joked using a voice that he usually reserves when talking to toddlers. Yes, Logan speaks like that to toddlers. I've tried to tell him that they'd still understand him if he spoke normal but, he insists that it makes them feel 'equal'.
"Shut up." I said with fake anger, smacking his arm in the process.
"Oh, I'm sorry Marissa. Please forgive me, sugar booger." He played along with talent that an aspiring actor would sell his soul for.
As if on cue, our waiter, whose name was Mike, came walking to our table with our dishes. He was quite handsome but, his looks not comparable to Logan's at all.
Why am I comparing him to Logan?
Mike slowly sat the 'sizzling fajitas' down on table with a, "Be careful, it's hot." He warned with a pointed look my way, and a charming smile.
"Thanks for the heads up." I returned the smile before muttering to myself, "Like I couldn't tell with the smoke."
Logan's own giggle filled my ears, maybe I said that a little louder than I thought I had?
Mike sat Logan's plate down quicker than he did mine, shot me a small glare, and walked away.
"Ah Marissa, I don't think Mike is a fan of you anymore."
"I didn't mean to say that so loud. Was it loud?" I panicked, feeling somewhat guilty.
"Um, honestly? Yes."
Logan looked up from his prodding fork and took in my concerned expression.
"Relax Sugar Booger, it's not a big deal. It's not like he's in the back crying or anything. We're men. Strong, tough, we have muscles. Grr." Logan finished his sentence in a very deep, and poorly imitated voice.
"I don't see them."
"See what?"
"Those imaginary muscles that you think you have."
"IMAGINARY?"
"That's what I said." I replied nonchalantly.
"These," He lifted his obviously muscular arms, "are not imaginary. When I go through T.S.A., they stop me and tell me guns are not allowed on planes."
My laughter from earlier found it's way back in milliseconds and for the second time, the attention of the room was directed on our booth.
Shortish, sorry. Vote, comment. Fan. Thanks :)
