Ten Years Later...
𝐈𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐭𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐦𝐞, Juliana Rosa Garcia, that I'd be out in ten years working my dream job and raising my kid- I'd have called you insane. "I still can't believe you got out a year ago." My son smiled as I ruffled his hair. "And I can't believe my mijho is a fucking freshman! Stop growing kid, makes me feel old." I smirked kissing his cheek. "Mama! Stop! I've grown up!" Santiago cringed as I chuckled unlocking my Mini Copper. It was blue, reminded me of C Block.
"So, I heard you've been talking to this person. What're they called again?" I asked my son, still trying to get used to everything going on around me, whilst we hopped in my small yet practical car. I now had an internship for a local newspaper, I wanted to be a reporter, get real news across because of all the injustice around me plus I worked at a restaurant.. It's called Domingo's it's been open, well since the 80s.
I'd shared Carol's glass of ice story to the girls there and they all cracked up. "Ash, they're really cool, pleaseee don't embarrass me when they come round later." Santiago begged as I giggled, yes my son had a partner now, well it was looking that way at least. "!Oye! Santi, I'm not gonna embarrass your new "Just a friend", if you're worrying about anyone it'll be your abuelo." I told my son with a chuckle.
"No Roberto is the worst for that shit." He groaned as I smacked his shoulder whilst we drove along. "Don't swear! You're still a baby!" I reprimanded turning the radio on. "Carol swears! And I'm nearly fifteen!" Santi defended himself. "Well when you turn 41 or 61 like me or Carol come back to me." I smirked as he sighed turning the radio up. "Oh my god mom! I love this song!" Santiago beamed. "Hey me too!" I grinned high fiving him.
"She's a maniac! Maniac! On the floor..." We both sung with a laugh before I parked up outside Litchfield Max. "Can I just say, I know it's hard to see your mother with an older woman and I'm proud of you for taking it well." I sincerely told my son getting tears in my eyes. "Mom..." He sighed softly. "You've been through a lot, me being inside and now your father. Abuela now living in fucking Crete or something and Roberto with his new lover now I mean they don't shut up." I rambled to my son. "Mom, I love you. I know that dad was the one the pushed you to such things...Not everything is your fault." He sincerely told me kissing my cheek.

"𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬 𝐦𝐞?" 𝐈 asked Carol with a smile sitting with her. "Fuck, always." She smiled back as I held my hand up to the glass as did she. "Where's your squirt?" Carol wondered. "I haven't since... Oh right Santiago, he's gone to the vending machines giving us a bit of time." I replied flushing a little as Denning chuckled. "That ring... Looks amazing on your finger baby girl." She smirked. "I wish you coulda picked it out for me, I mean you did propose." I smirked.
"I just got another two years then we can get married, they believed the death of Barbara was... Self defence. How's work been going little one? God I can't wait to hold you." She grinned. "It's been decent, I got a new job at Domingo's rumour has it someone told your glass of ice story." I hummed. "Did anyone laugh? Is there still that writing on the bathroom stall?" Carol quizzed me as I chuckled.
"Everyone laughed, and yes it does still have your artwork there. Look at us now, ten years older and still as happy as we were inside." I grinned blowing a kiss to her and placing my hand down to shuffle up for Santiago to sit. "Hey Granny Carol." He joked as I rolled my eyes. "Santiago! Recuerda lo que te dije, ¡no llames así a mi novia! Todos tenemos un sentido del humor diferente, bebé." I warned him.
"Santiago! Remember what I told you, don't call my girlfriend that! We all have different sense of humour baby."
"Julie, lighten up. Little squirts just tryin' to ruffle feathers hey kid." Carol smirked as he smirked back. Something about Santiago and Carol's bond made me anxious, because I know when she gets out they're both going to gang up on me. "So... Your mom tells me you have a thing coming over." She spoke as I chuckled quietly. "Carol I think you mean they, they're non binary." Santiago smirked.
"Look kid, I hardly know how to use a computer alright, only just know how to use Facebook. Gimme some- I see you laughin' darlin!" She replied raising her brows at me. "I-I wasn't laughing." I smiled. "Yes you were mom because you snort like a pig." Santiago sassed. "I do not!" I fought back. "Oh yes you do! Honestly, when we were playin' bridge kid- your mom would fuckin' snort like a hog. Quirky little thing aren't ya." Carol smirked as Santiago nodded in agreement.
"How about you stay inside- I don't like the closeness and ganging up on me you two have!" I huffed as the pair looked at each other with a grin. "Oh how sweet!" She rolled her eyes. "Thanks for asking about Ash before Carol, I'm just kidding...I uh, think you make my mama very happy." Santiago confessed as the two of us beamed. "Don't set me off again Santiago. Now come on share your sweets." I bossed as he handed me some brownie M&Ms.
"I filled up your commissary so you can have a delayed lollipop feast." I smiled to Carol whilst Santiago told crap jokes and we laughed at them I realised. I was a maniac for her, she made me crazy but she brought me light and family just like I did to her...
