Our faces are so close, our noses barely touch. He leans closer and he...

Places a soft kiss on my cheek. Really? Deception goes through me. I wished it had been more than that. I smile cheekily at him. I look at his face- he seems lost in his thoughts. He then looks at me deeply.

"I've had a wonderful time tonight, but maybe we shouldn't see ourselves anymore." What. The. Heck. Is. He. Talking. About? We had a wonderful time tonight, you bet! He made me feel things I've never felt before, and he decides this after just one night?

"W-What are you talking about? Is it me? Am I not pretty enough? I-I'm sorry I wasted your time tonight. If you just excuse me, it's late. I must be going-" I don't understand a thing. I start turning away to leave but I feel his firm hand on my arm, forcing me to turn around.

"Serena, you seem like an innocent girl, too good for me. You deserve someone else, someone better than me." That's just weird. One second he's flirting with me, the next he doesn't want to see me again, even after absolutely NOTHING had happened. I am truly pissed off. I really wanted to know him better, and even if we only talked for an evening, I feel like if I have known him for eternity.

"Yeah, you're right. Good night, Nick!" I say, totally sarcastic. I still can't believe how this happened. I turn away and walk back to my condo. I really have to tell this to Alex, she won't believe what just happened. As I enter by the door, I can see Alex and Max, surprised. They sit guiltily on the couch, a cheeky smile on their lips. Alex's hair is all messy and I see that the hairdo I made her is all undone. Her lipstick is all smeared and I see a little of it on Max's mouth.

"I see that someone got lucky tonight! Didn't expect me back this early, didn't you?" They nod. They are so cute together, at least her night ended well. Max checks his watch and gathers his stuff.

"I didn't see the time go by, gotta go. See you tomorrow at the beach, babe!" Alex giggles and blushes.

"I'll miss you!" She meets him at the door and he kisses her goodbye.

"I'll miss you more! Bye!" He then leaves by the front door.

"Now that you know pretty much what I did this evening, tell me what you did! How did it go with the pool hottie?" I then explain, in great detail, everything that happened tonight.

"I just don't understand, Alex! Why would he flirt with me like his life depends on it, and then ask me to not see each other anymore, even if we only saw each other for a night? Maybe he has multiple personalities! Yeah! I bet he's bipolar!" Alex looks at me for a moment, and bursts out laughing uncontrollably. When she catches her breath, she manages to say:

"Multiple personalities!!! Bipolar!!!!! Serena, do you even know what you're talking about? I think not!!! Oh, you're funny! Okay, I understand. I say he's just a stupid, selfish jerk, he's not worthy. I'll ask Max to present you a couple of his friends, maybe that'll cheer you up. Let's eat some dulce de leche Haagen Dazs while watching a movie. Do you want to come with me to buy all we need?" I continue talking as we head out the door. I see that Alex's expression changed, but I don't stop ranting.

"Yes. I mean, it's not like if he was THAT hot. I mean, yes. He works out. And yes, he is really pretty. But it doesn't make him a Greek god, and besides, even the hotness can't make me forget that he's just a manipulative jerk who likes to play with girls' feelings. He uses them, and then he throws them away when he's done. YES! That's what he is! A player! PLAYER! P-L-A-Y-E-R, player!"

"Serena,"

"Don't interrupt me, I'm not done. I was saying, what an asshole, he's-"

"SERENA!!! He's standing right behind you! I guess I'll go buy this stuff alone while you two sort things out. See ya!" She quickly runs away, leaving me alone with him outside, near the door. Oh, I am in big trouble.

"So, it appears that I am a manipulative jerk who 'plays' with girls then throws them away when I'm done? At least you noticed that I work out, and you said I'm really pretty, but that's what I am to you? A player? Someone who plays with girls' feelings?" I am baffled. Maybe I shouldn't have said that. Maybe.

"W-Well, I-" No words will come out. Darn! I hate my nervous stutter.

"Well, I will show you I am not a careless man-whore." Whoa, I never said that. But I meant it. A lot. And now, he's walking towards me, and the proximity of our bodies forces me to step back until I am flat against the wall. God, he's sexy when he does that. He places his hand flat on the door above my head and, slowly, his face is getting closer to mine. He bows his head to whisper in my ear "You smell good." His breath tickles in my ear.

"I smell chlorine, stupid." I say, forcing myself not to laugh.

"Tomorrow, meet me at the beach. Don't forget." I am all confused now.

"I thought you didn't want to see me anymore?"

"I said it would be bad for you to keep seeing me, but, for a completely unknown reason, I totally want to see you again. You better be there tomorrow. I'll be waiting for you at the pier. You better come. Noon, don't forget." Whoever said men weren't complicated didn't know Nick. But I'm starting to like him, really. I know that deep beneath his bad boy attitude, is a boy that really cares for others. He removes his hand and starts heading for his unit and turns around, whispering: "Sweet dreams, darling." Whoa. Next thing I hear, is the sound of Alex's car, pulling into the driveway. She gets out of the car, showing me what she got.

"I got our ice cream and a movie. Is The Notebook okay?" She knows it's one of my favorite movies! "By the way, is Nick gone already?" I turn around to see that he's not there, so I presume he left.

"Yeah, we... Talked." I reply, blushing.

She glances suspiciously at me, then opens the front door. We grab two spoons and head for the living room, where we start the movie. Meanwhile, I tell her what had happened at the front door before. Finally, she decides to sleep over, since I am alone for a while. I quickly doze off, thinking again about what happened that night...
