Chapter 4.
"I know I should be surprised, but I'm seriously not." Greg stared lazy eyed at Tom who held two bottles of alcohol in his hands.
Unsurprisingly, Tom's whole reason for running into the crime scene was to retrieve two bottles of champagne.
"It's payment. Forget about the bottles and tell me what happened with the witness." Greg sighed. His fingers massages his furrowed brows.
It was six o'clock so Greg and Tom were heading back home to go through what they got today about the case. "There was another person in the room that day. A man. It's possible he killed the Fallons murderer."
Tom froze from the vibration of his ringing phone, he reached into his pockets struggling to retrieve his phone. "Take this." He loaded Greg's hands with the stolen bottles and took out his phone. "Yes?" He answered expectantly.
"Detective Gordon, it's me. The unknown body, we got his name."
Almost ten feet away from Tom's car parked outside the Green Valley, a loud bang shook the streets, as Tom's car blew up causing both men to be pushed away by the impact ten more feets away from the car.
Their ears began to bleed from the loud blast that indirectly caused them injury. "My car!!" Tom tried standing only to watch his car go ablaze. "Ahhhh!! Not my car." He held his head in disbelief as his burning car melting away. The sight of it all felt more painful than the pain he was currently enduring.
He took a step forward and stopped to find nothing but his red sports car in flames. Turning to check on his partner, he exclaimed, "Greg? Hey!" He trudged to his partner with his hands on his stomach. Greg laid unconscious on the floor, bleed gushing out of his head.
Unfortunately, Greg was a little closer to the car. Immediately, without much thought Tom called an ambulance. His voices cracking as he tried to explain the uncanny situation.
"He'll be fine. His head is a little banged up but he'll be alright." The doctor assured Tom as his arm and face were being tended to. His left arm bandaged and face stitched. He was in excruciating pain but all he could think about was what just unfolded. This was intentional. They were being targeted. But by who?
"Can I see him?"
"Sure." The doctor moved away from the door allowing Tom to enter.
"You look like sh*t." Tom humorous words brought a smile on Greg's face. "You don't look that good yourself, Gordon."
Tom sat on the chair across the bed staring at his wounded partner. He felt anger and frustration. What happened back there? That was no accident.
"What happened back there?" Greg asked pulling himself up. "Don't know, but believe me when I say, I will make those assholes pay. I promise."
He was upset about his car but, even if he didn't want to say it, he was more angry Greg got hurt.
Hard for him to admit but he was warming up to the kid.
"I'm going to get us some coffee." Tom stood from his sitting position. "I can't keep watching that ugly bruised face of yours. Get well soon, to save me from this sight." Unfazed, Greg lips curled up in a soft smile. He nodded. Without another word Tom left to get their coffee.
All thoughts of who could have done this was on the killer's killer. It seemed more easier to put it on him since Tom and Greg were on the Fallons case so that would be a good reason to kill them.
But even so, the one who blew up the car planned it carefully they aren't amateurs, but from what Mrs. Hathaway said about the killer being scared and shivering out of the resort means he was an amateur. Probably his first kill.
