(I'll Be By Edwin McCain)

I was sitting on the couch next to Yomar, Abu, and Dlo. We were backstage at one of my dad's concerts. He was doing such a good job, and we were loving every moment of the spotlight.

Though we werent going on stage because my father did not want us in the strong spotlight at such a young age.

It didn't matter to us if we were known or not, all we knew is that we wanted to follow my fathers footsteps. We wanted to be rockstars just like him. We wanted that adrenaline rush, we wanted that happiness, we wanted every second of it.

"Thank you everyone!" He shouted, kissing his fist and sticking it up to the sky.

We all jumped up, ready to greet our father. Excitement was something we always felt after his shows. He ran off of stage, security following him making sure nothing happened, and he ran right to us.

He always did.

We were his everything.

He smiled at us and he hugged all of us. We were kids, we loved every second of just being with him.

"Are you guys ready to go?" He asked, not giving himself a minute to breathe.

Dad had custody of all of us. Like I said, all of our parents are shitty. We all followed him outside to the car, before our driver took us to our house.

Our house was a small penthouse in New York. We were always traveling, but this was our home.
Once we got home we all ran upstairs and into our house.

He got a shower and got changed as we all got ready for bed. We all slept in the same room even though we didn't have to. We didn't want to be separated. We always needed to be with each other.

He walked in, a normal occurrence for us, grabbed his guitar from the corner, and started playing. Our fingerprints were glowing because we used glow in the dark paint. Dlo was already asleep, and he was holding a poptart box.

Yomar was lying on his side hugging a stuffed animal. Abu was face planted into his pillow, his glasses on the nightstand next to him, and I was staring at the ceiling.

He started strumming on his guitar and I closed my eyes.

"The strands in your eyes that color them wonderful
Stop me, and steal my breath
And emeralds from mountains, the thrust towards the sky
Never revealing their depth

And tell me that we belong together
Dress it up with the trappings of love
I'll be captivated, I'll hang from your lips
Instead of the gallows of heartache that hang from above"

The way he hit every emotion with every word that came out of his mouth was so powerful. I remember thinking about how much I wanted to be like him at this moment.

I remember thinking, he was going to watch us be the kids that never give up. He was going to watch us, build up our fire, and crash it down on everyone who doubted us.

"And I'll be your cryin' shoulder
I'll be love's suicide
And I'll be better when I'm older
I'll be the greatest fan of your life

And rain falls, angry on the tin roof
As we lie awake in my bed
And you're my survival, you're my living proof
My love is alive and not dead"
