Meeting his Caregiver

Sebastian

One little boy stood out to me compared to all of my other students. This boy was smart. Too smart for his age.
Forest Vincent Sawyer. He was too smart for his own good. He made Math and English seem so easy.
It was coming to the end of the day. The bell had rung.

"Have a good rest of the day students. I will see you all tomorrow" I said. They all rushed out the door saying goodbye. Except for Forest.

"Forest" I said. He turned towards me and smiled.

"Yes, Mr.King?" He asked as he cleaned up his desk area.

"When your mom comes to pick you up, I would love to meet her. I wanted to let her know that she had a genius on her hands" I said.
His face changed as soon as i said that. I looked at him as he was about to say something, but there was a quiet knock on my door.
He quickly ran to the person and tackled them to the floor. She had let out a little laugh. She hugged Forest tightly.
This must be mom. I could finally see her face as she smiled at him.

"How was your first day baby?" She asked. He smiled at her. I was to focused on her to even noticed that she had stood up. My eyes roamed her body. She was gorgeous.
Almost to stunningly gorgeous. She held out her hand to me. I gently took it in mine feeling the softness of her delicate hand.

"Its lovely to finally meet you Mr.King. I'm Norah Maxwell. Forest's caregiver" She said. I looked at her for a minute. Caregiver? But wait I thought she was his mom.

"Lovely to meet you as well Norah, but please call me Sebastian" I said. She had smiled gently at me. She then looked toward Forest as he started to read again.

"Forest-

"He's alright Norah. I don't mind at all. It gives me a better chance to get to know you" I said. She smiled and then let out a small laugh.

"I don't mean to pry, but you had said caregiver earlier?" I asked.

"Yes, I am his caregiver. I'm his Aunt. The situation is a little more complicated and complex then it needs to be" Norah said.
I nodded my head. Her Husband is one lucky man.

"Well I must say, you and your husband must be very proud of him. Hes very smart for his age, I would even say above normal" I said.
I see the sad look on her face as she smiled.

"Well thank you again. I had tried to work with him every day while I was at home working. It has just been Forest and I since the beginning. Before I took custody of him it was just me" She said.
How could someone like her not already be snatched up.

"Oh...I'm sorry, I didn't mean to assume" I had said. She just laughed and smiled. I see Forest clutching onto her leg.

"No worries, with me having Forest I just haven't had the time to find the right one yet. But I'm afraid we have kept you for too long, Sebastian. Forest come on, let's go home and get dinner ready" She said.
She smiled and walked out the classroom with Forest right next to her.
I stood out in the hallway and watched her walk away with Forest. Just her presence walking away from me, already made me feel empty.

"I see that look stud" Mariah said as she came over and looked at me. I shook my head and went back into my classroom. Her following me.

"Mariah don't you have to pick up Lily?" I asked as I started to gather my things.

"No she drove herself today. Look I don't blame you for looking at Forest's mom. She's drop dead gorgeous. When I had met her this morning I was amazed by her" Mariah said.

"I wasn't staring" I said as I picked up my phone and headed toward the door.

"If that wasn't you basically undressing her with your eyes I don't know what was" she said. I shook my head and lock my classroom door.

"Look, it already seems hard on Norah as it is. I don't want to put pressure on her by asking her personal questions" I said as we both walked down the hallway.

"So your both on first name basis huh!" Mariah said.

"Look she took custody over her own Nephew. I don't want to put pressure on her or Forest" I said as I made my way to my truck.

"Wait...wait that isn't Forest's mom?" Mariah asked.
I shut the back door and turned to her.

"No thats Forest's Aunt. She took custody of him and is now his caregiver." I said.

"Does she have a husband, girlfriend, both, what, what does she have?" Mariah asked.
I got in the driver side seat and rolled down my window looking at Mariah.

"She doesn't have any of that. She said she didn't have enough time to find the right one since she has full custody of Forest now" I said.
I rolled up my window and backed out of the school parking lot heading home.
