As I opened the door I was greeted by Sam grinning ear to ear, the excitement he had was hard to contain I suppose. I let out a small chuckle thinking of him. "Hi beautiful, you look absolutely amazing," He said, looking me up and down, not very discreetly. Thank you Sammy" I said shyly, pushing some hair behind my ear. "Shall we go?" He asked, holding his hand out for me to take.
We walked out of the apartment hand in hand, his car was about a block down the street. "So where exactly are we going? And please tell me that I am dressed warm enough this time." I asked giggling as I spoke. "Yeah you should be fine and we are going... drumroll please," he said as we approached his car and his smile only growing wider, "Ice skating! And then to a movie!" He said letting go of my hand, only to extend his arms out, wiggling his fingers. I looked at him in awe as he was clearly very impressed with the date he had conjured up, he was smiling bigger than I had ever seen before. "Really?" I exclaimed, "I haven't been ice skating in so long, however, I am the clumsiest person I know so keep that in mind," I said giggling, poking his side as I opened the car door. "I'll be there to help you," he said, closing the door once I got settled.
As we drove, we talked about everything, it was much different than any other time we had spent together. We discussed his show and I about his bass face that he was oblivious to. "How do you not know you do that?' I asked, almost crying with laughter, "Next time I go to a show I will record you so that you can see what I'm talking about. It's adorable Sammy." I finished my statement grabbing his hand and chuckling softly. We also talked about my schooling and how stressful it's been. "I love what I do but the chaos of it all has sucked all the fun out of it," I said matter-of-factly, "I play at my apartment all the time, so I know I still love it, but like I said the pressure and the fact that it's not a promised career is making it all not worth it." I could feel Sam's eyes glancing in my direction while still trying to concentrate on the road, "so you want to drop out?" He asked, with a bit of hesitancy. "I don't know, to be honest. Music has always been a passion of mine and I thought that pursuing it as a career would make sense but it doesn't anymore."I stayed quiet for a moment, thinking of what I said, as it wasn't something I had ever said out loud before. "Well, if you could do something else. What would you do?" I looked out the window, watching the lights pass by like fireflies, letting his words swirl around in my head "Music is and will always be my passion but if I could do anything I would sing for a living. That's the dream. Well that or cosmetology school, but you get my point. "I said, letting out a breathy nervous laugh. I looked at Sam seeing his face turn in contemplation. "I'm sorry, let's back up, you can sing?" He said more enthusiastically than I thought was possible. "Yes Samuel, I can sing." I laughed. He was grinning from ear to ear again. "Alright, let's hear it." Like clockwork, my stage fright kicked in "Ha! Not a chance" I said in a slightly serious tone. "See that's the thing with performing in front of people, I have horrible stage fright. Although the shows in my room are top tier in case you were wondering." I laughed trying to distract myself from the fact that he wasn't going to drop this and I was going to have to put on some kind of show. "I will sing for you, eventually, but on my own time because I get really nervous." I could see the excitement grow in his eyes, "Okay, okay fine." he giggled like a little kid at the thought of it.
We pulled into the parking lot of the ice skating rink and made our way to the building. "Seriously I will fall in there, so let's make sure I don't break my bones," I said with a dry laugh. He held the door open and followed close behind me. Our hands interlocked immediately and we walked up to the front counter. "Just the two of you tonight?" the clerk asked. "Yeah, for an hour. And we need to rent shoes" Sam said, pulling his card out of his wallet. We grabbed our shoes and made our way to the bleachers next to the rink.
"This is gonna be fun" Sam chimed, I assume because my worries of what could follow were written across my face. "I know, I'm just a tad nervous," I said chuckling, displaying the amount with my pointer finger and thumb. I'm still not entirely convinced that this will end well.
After our shoes were laced up snuggly, and we got mentally prepared, we made our way out onto the ice. It was definitely easier than I remember but standing up straight wasn't really an option. Sam however was a natural, he could pretty much skate circles around me. It looked so effortless for him. I made my way around the rink holding the rail a little bit along the way before this little boy got in the way and in an effort to avoid him I slipped and hit the ice. Hard. I sat there for a second and figured it didn't fall hard enough to break anything. I started to pull myself up when I heard Sam, "Oh God," he said in a worried tone coming from behind me. "Are you okay?" I nodded and stood up all the way, Sam pulled me close and kissed my temple. I started to lose my balance but he caught me just in time, pulling me in close again but this time placing a kiss sweetly on my lips.
Once again the thought of having to choose crossed my mind again, I could feel the tightness returning to my chest but I tried my hardest to black it out and enjoy my time with Sammy.
"Your lips are turning blue" Sam chuckled, snapping me out of the distracted state I was in. "our time is almost up so we can start heading to the theater if you want." I nodded and we made our way back to the bleachers where we left our shoes. Once we got to the bleachers, Sam took his phone out. He pulled me close and snapped a few pictures. When he showed me the moment he had captured, I could see that my lips were indeed slightly blue like he said before and the tip of my nose had grown to a rosy pink. "Oh, I forgot to ask what movie we are going to see." We grabbed our skates after our shoes were on and made our way to the front desk to return them. "We are gonna go see the new Ghostbusters movie, I know you loved the original ones and were excited to see this one." He said as a smile grew across my face. I intertwined our fingers as we walked out the doors.
We had gotten most of the way to the car when Sam stopped. He pulled me to face him, our bodies were only a few inches apart. "I wanted to tell you something," he said, tilting my chin to look up at him. "Y'know when we were performing light my love... I was playing it for you. I told the guys I wanted it on the setlist and thank god they were okay with it." He paused for a second before continuing, "I'm so glad I met you, y/n, you make me so happy." he hesitated again and smiled " I- I think I love you" I stood there for a second in shock and might have been a little too long because he spoke again in a more cautious tone. "It's okay if you don't feel the same way, I just really needed to get that off my chest and I know that we haven't known each other for that long but.." I cut him off, pressing my body against his, leaving our lips to meet last. "I love you too, Sammy," I said, tilting my head back so I could look into his eyes, as he was almost 6 inches taller than me. He smiled and I could see a red hue spread across his olive-toned skin. He placed a small kiss on my forehead sending butterflies swirling around in my stomach.
