Chapter 22: Homeward Bound

It's been a few days since I finally told Josh how I felt. I honestly couldn't believe that he felt the same way after everything that happened. I ended up booking my flight back home that night after we got off the phone and scheduled it for 3 days later. I can't wait to go back, as much as I love Arizona and miss my family, Nashville is my home.

The day of my flight came quickly, I said my goodbyes and could feel my anxiety start to rise as I stepped out of the door to get in my uber to go to the airport. My flight wasn't for like 2 and half hours but knowing Sky Harbor airport I would need every single one of those minutes.

I was right. So correct in fact that I nearly missed my flight, that's what I get for booking my flight for a Friday. The 3-hour flight was agonizing. I felt like it was never-ending. But alas the flight attendant come over the speaker and finally said that we would be landing soon. I told Vee that I was coming home and she lost her fucking mind but I saw that one coming. We didn't live together but I knew not being around was hard for her because it was so hard being away from her. After texting Vee to come to the airport to pick me up I texted Josh.

Me: Hey, guess where I am😋

Josh💕: ARE YOU BACK??

Me: Maybe lol I want to see you😩

Josh💕: I have a meeting tonight for the tour, maybe I could come by after?

Me: yes please😊

Josh💕: I'll see you then love❤️

We all got off the plane and I navigated the Nashville airport. I made my way to the front of the airport and passed security. I saw families greeting each other and part of me wished that I had someone there for me too. With that thought leaving my mind I felt someone run up behind me and grab me with everything they had, I nearly busted my ass on the airport floor. After the shock of the blow went away I turned around to see Venus standing there with tears in her eyes and her arms wide open. Before I knew it she was crashing into me again. I embraced her hug and we stood there for a few seconds before she took one of my bags and led the way to where she parked. "How was it?" she asked almost skipping with excitement. "Honestly it was much needed. I didn't realize how little time I was actually leaving for myself. But I'm glad to be back" I smiled, " I'm glad you're back dude it's been lonely, to be honest." I couldn't help but frown a little hearing her words "I know Vee I'm sorry but at least I'm back now. Oh by the way how are things going with Jake? You told me a little bit over the phone but I want to know everything" I said walking up to the passenger door. "Oh girl, it's been really good. We are more serious." she raised her eyebrows as she spoke. "I know they are going on tour soon though so that's a little hard" I sat down after putting the bags in the backseat "yeah Josh was telling me about that on the phone the other night." Her eyes went wide and she looked at me like I had 3 heads. " WHAT DID I MISS?" She screamed at me, " oh... um... I forgot to tell you" I laughed. "Y/N TELL ME EVERYTHING RIGHT NOW?" I took a breath trying to collect my thoughts and started telling her. "Well I talked to my mom about the situation and we kind of came to the consensus that Josh is the person that I want to be with. Well that night I was trying to decide what to say to him so we ended up talking on the phone and he said that he loved me and I told him that it was him and was always him." I could feel the familiar blush return to my cheeks, "he also told me that sam met someone, which is obviously fine because I told them when everything went down not to wait for me. I'm happy for him. I mean it would have made it harder, to be honest, but I am glad he's happy. But we talked for a little while and I told him what I was up to and that's when he told me about the tour." Vee was shocked, to say the least, but she finally spoke, "holy shit dude." I laughed at the shock that was written across her face. " oh I know I was as surprised as you are. But Josh said he wanted to see me tonight so he's gonna come over later." all Vee could do was laugh, "we can hang out for a while though, he has a meeting tonight." I could see her relax a little bit with my words, " you come first Venus, don't worry" I laughed pushing her shoulder. Just then we pulled up to our apartments.

We made our way up to my apartment and threw my bags in my room (which likely weren't going to be unpacked for a little while.) I went into my living room and sat on the couch next to Vee, who has pulled out her phone and was texting someone intently. I'm assuming Jake, even before they started "dating" she told him all of the drama, no matter how small. I pulled out my phone and started mindlessly scrolling through my social media, as much as I hated doing that I needed some kind of peace after the last week I've had.

A few hours passed and eventually, Vee got a message from Jake saying that he was coming over to her place. We said our goodbyes and she left. I walked away from the door and straight to my record player that had built up some dust. (i knew I would be cleaning that tomorrow) I pulled out one of my Crosby, Stills, and Nash records and placed it on the player. As soon as the music started my phone chimed.

Josh💕: Hey beautiful, I'm on my way, if that's still okay?

Me: Absolutely, drive safe❤️

He only responded with a heart, he always did that when I told him to drive safely. I hated when he would try and multitask when he was behind the wheel. So in an effort, he would respond with a heart and he put his phone away for the rest of the car ride. 15 or so minutes later I got a knock at the door. My heart nearly jumped out of my chest. I made my way to the door and sure enough through the peephole, I saw Josh standing there waiting intently, and he had something hidden behind his back. I took a breath and opened the door.

Josh's eyes lit up as the door slowly came open. Once there was enough room to fit his small frame, he pushed through the doorway and embraced me in the tightest hug. We held each other for a minute or so making up for the lost time. "Hey mama" he whispered into my ear. The closeness of it all sent shivers down my spine. "hi love" I replied pulling away just slightly so that I could see his face. His smile lit up the room and I couldn't help but smile back at him, homemade me so happy I could barely contain it. He stepped back, and I hadn't realized that he still had his arm behind his back. He looked me up and down and a blush similar to mine spread over his cheeks. He pulled his arm from behind his back and was holding a bouquet of flowers. They were gorgeous, there were daisies and an assortment of wildflowers. I gently took them from his hand and observed them further seeing a notecard on the top. I picked it out of the flowers in an attempt to read it, but before I could Josh spoke, " wait to read that" he chucked and his blush deepened. I finally stepped away and went to grab a vase to transfer the flowers into. Josh pulled out a stool and sat at the bar of my little kitchen island and watched me as I trimmed the stems. "God I've missed you," he said with his hand rubbing his chin. "I've missed you too Joshua."
