It wasn't long before he finally gathered up the courage to ask Midna if he could stay. It was only a day and a half since they had arrived, and he had finally gotten used to waking up every morning to it being twilight already. It also was odd that he didn't have to worry about Majora either, or the responsibilities of being a hero, or the fact that their was always someone who needed him to do something. The Twilight Realm was perfect in every way, even if he never saw Zelda or Ilea again. They had other friends, Ilea had Shad, they would get married and... He smiled to himself as he looked around. The halls reflected the ever twilight sky like a mirror, and the guards all had the same orange hair and blue skin as Midna did.

As soon as he reached the throne room, his mind started to panic. What if she said no? What would the others say if he stayed? Would he ever see his friends again? What if he didn't like it there in the twilight realm? He paced back and forth for a moment, and then remembered Majora. The sickly feeling of being possessed, of having to fight mentally his entire life. The Twilight Realm seemed to block Majora, he would be happy here, because he could hurt anyone else.... So everyone would be happy. He would be with Midna, and the people of Hyrule could think of him as a hero, not as a monster.

He finally walked through the doors of the throne room, only to be greeted by Midna's unkind stare. "What do you want Link?" she asked as he bowed before the throne. He took a deep breath, and looked up at her. "I um...." he cleared his throat. "Midna.... I want to stay in the Twilight Realm"

There was silence. Absolutely nothing was said, by the hero, or by the queen. They just stayed there for a moment, completely frozen in place. "Leave us" she told the guards, and the golden wolf beside her. One by one, they all disappeared into a puff of black smoke. The throne room doors slammed shut, and Midna stepped down from the throne, towards the hero of twilight. He stood up, and stumbled back, shivering. Gathering his courage, he stood his ground, the urge to teleport away from her growing and growing.

"I thought you loved Zelda" she said finally, when they were face to face with each other. "What?" he asked, confused. "How could you leave the one you love... for here?" she asked him. "I..." his words got stuck in his throat as he held back tears. "I've never loved Zelda... not in my life... I've never loved anyone except...." the truth threatened to over take him as he stared into her beautiful eyes. "Except who?" she asked, breathlessly.

"Except you"
