- 9 - Aged eight - Break up

I remember my brother got dumped by his girlfriend. Normally to other people this would be the time where you could comfort eachother, but he came downstairs and screamed really loud.

I was in the sitting room with my mam. We both heard him scream and I think we bother know what was to come.

My brother broke a chair in half and then he and mam began screaming at each other. Eventually that lead to the stairs and my man and him were halfway up the stairs, me fearfully watching when he kicked her hard against the chest. She nearly fell down but cried out in pain.

I was scared. I was scared that things could become worse, which they always did with my family.

Mam rushed into to the kitchen, my brother long gone up the stairs. I don't remember what she was saying, but I was trying to see if she was okay.

She threw a chair at me. It hit my knee, that scared me even more and along with her words so I hid in another room. My hands covering my ears and tears rushing down my face and I pleaded to God.

Please, please just make this stop.
