Hiding. When something bad happens to you, you just want to hide. You want no one to find you, because the news could only get worse. So Amber hid and prayed that she could stay there forever, frozen in time. So it would stop hurting so much. So it would stop being real. All the ache and the trauma would stop appearing.

She didn't cry. She could never stop surprising herself by how much she could keep inside. But she needed someone with her. And that someone was the boy that was always there for her. Even when she pushed him away, even when she pushed everyone away.

"Tom?" She took a shakily breath as the boy answered his phone. "I know... we haven't been friends or anything exactly, but my mom's at the hospital and I think it's serious this time... I don't know if she's going to make it. I don't know if my baby sister is going to make it. I just need you here."

"I'm on my way." Tom didn't need to hear anything. He didn't need an explanation about what had went down. Amber needed him and that's all he needed to know. Since Amber pushed him away, it had been hard for him. It had been hard not being able to help her. And then he saw the people she was hanging out with and he was terrified of what could happen to her, the person she would turn into. The fact that he just gave her some space was hurting him when all he wanted was to hold her. But he should have known better, because your first love always hurts a little bit more than anything else.

Mark was pacing back and forth in the waiting room. He was waiting for some news about Natalie, about his baby. But there was nothing. He was in the waiting room, feeling helpless, feeling useless and alone. All alone. He had seen that Amber was at the stairway, and he decided that it would be better to give her some space. He knew that she'd need a moment to have her feelings.

Natalie was still in the OR, leaving Mark to process everything that happened. He didn't even know the reason Natalie was out, if maybe she was not feeling well, if she needed something and he was not there to give it to her. And the guilt was eating him alive. Because all he could think about was that he should have been with her. He shouldn't have left her alone. But he couldn't just not help Amber. Especially not when her father had let her down again.

The father, who somehow had found out about the accident. Mark saw him rushing in the hospital and he frowned his eyebrows confused. And right in that moment, Mark was not mad at himself anymore. He was mad at him instead, in just an instant. He was mad at everything he had done to both Natalie and Amber.

Isaac spotted Mark, staring back at him and he walked up to him. "Hey, I got here as fast as I could. How is she?" He asked him and Mark could only picture his face with a black eye.
