There is a phrase in the operating room, "Don't pet the lion." It means, no matter how nice a tumor looks, how small it is, how perfect its margins may be... It's still a tumor. It's still dangerous and it can bite.

It was one those days that Natalie was trying to have everything around the house ready. The last few years, she had this desire of doing everything by herself in the house, with zero help from anyone. Even though she worked everyday for too many hours. She'd prefer, for example, to do the house chores by herself, even when Amber and Mark were trying to help her.
Natalie breathed out, feeling a little heavy on her chest. She had just finished cooking. At 8 am, minutes before she had to leave for work. "Okay, Iris is fed" she announced. "Amber" she then turned to her older daughter who was eating her cereal a little too fast because she had slept in, "I cooked for lunch so please stop ordering pizzas." She continued before looking at Mark. "Mark your white coat is clean but I didn't have time to iron it and..."
"Okay, will you slow down?" Mark interrupted her when he noticed that she was getting out of breathe and she continued taking deep breaths after every sentence. "I'll go iron it right now, it's fine."
Natalie ran her fingers through her hair as she tried to take another breath. It shouldn't have been so hard to breathe.
"Jeez mom yes" Amber agreed as she put the bowl to the sink. "I mean pizza is great for lunch." She exclaimed, making Natalie give her a look. "I'm joking. I love you, thank you for taking care of us, but you don't have to do everything, okay?" She added making Natalie relax just a little.
"I'll do nothing if you don't leave for college. I'll quit my job if you stay." Natalie gave her daughter pleading eyes, the time of Amber's departure was getting closer and it was getting harder and harder for Natalie.
"Okay, I'm still waiting for an answer from NYU. And if they accept me, you gotta let me go." Amber nodded her head like she was emphasising that her mother had to be okay with that at some point.
"They're totally accepting you!" Mark smiled at Amber.
"Thanks for the vote of confidence. I'm off. I'll see you guys tonight." The teenager said and she grabbed her things.
"Bye, I love you." Natalie called out, but she only heard the door shutting. "Mark, can we move to New York?" She turned to her husband, basically begging him. Mark stood up from his chair and gave her a kiss on her cheek as a reply. A gesture that would usually make her feel better, but not that day. The heaviness on her chest did not go away that day.
