Butter to Jimin

I can die now. No, God, I'm kidding.

She's kissing me, although not in the lips, I'll be damned if I will let her go. Before she can retract, I turn to kiss her too at the corner of her lips that still has the hint of the sweet hot wine. "Everyone deserves a present," I murmur, brushing my lips briefly on the same spot and I feel her shiver, hoping because of me, not because it's cold.

There's something about her that pulls me in like no other and I'll never stop until I figure it out. She looks familiar and I wonder how she looks underneath the make up. She pulls away from me, her cheeks, crimson. Red is really red literally. I brush my thumb on her slightly warm cheeks and she flinches. "I love these cheeks and I will make them blush as often as possible."

"S-stop," she says but her lips curve into a small smile.
"W-what are you doing?"

"I don't know. Seducing you? Do you understand this?" Her eyebrow raises in confusion. "Coz I don't. Tell me I'm not the only one who's having these swirls of emotion."

"I don't know what you're talking about." She says, not meeting my eyes. Is she lying or too embarrassed to face me?

I am about to ask her again but Betty, my car, catches our attention when she flies as low as she can.

"I guess it's time to go back," I say.

"Let's go," She says, grabbing my hand as we walk back to the entrance.

We place the green mug we used for hot wine on the shelf beside the stall selling it.

"See you soon, lovebirds." The old lady says and we just wave our hand and smile at her before we continue to the exit of the market, spotting my car a few meters away. The two doors are already opened so we both slip inside.

"There you are Red and Butter."

"Hi Betty! Good to hear your voice again," I chuckle, still not used to talking to an invisible chipmunk.

"Where did you go Betty?" Red asks after her seatbelt has been fastened.

"Nowhere. Just sleep and wait until it's 11:30 pm. It's my job to ensure you're home before 12 midnight."

"What will happen after midnight?" I reach out to hold Red's hand.

"The magic is gone."

"Ohh, Cinderella feels."

"Does it mean you can't fly anymore? And we will all go back to our original human form?" Red says, squeezing my hand. I guess we are both thinking and curious as to what will happen and how will it affect us. Are we going to think about this while waiting for 8 pm? Surely, I will miss Red and think about her.

"Yes and yes. We're leaving now."

Betty starts the engine and within a few minutes we're cruising above in between two worlds: the sky and the view below us. Me and Red are busy looking up and down.

"How's your meeting with Cupid Sant?" Betty breaks the silence, making us look at each other, checking who will answer her question. I nod at Red.

"We met some elves who will help us while we are in the North Pole," Red says, smiling. "Cupid Santa asked us to come up with the song to grant someone's wish about love: to love or unlove.

"Is that why you went out to get some inspiration?"

"Yes."

"Did it work?"

"Yes," I answer, looking at Red. "How about you? Are you able to think of some words or phrases?

"I have at least one line." She points her index finger upward as she says the word one.

"Can I hear it?"

"Only if you share yours." She levels my gaze and I find myself getting drowned in her blue eyes.

"Deal."

She takes a deep breath and blows the air out slowly. "Today was a fairytale, enchanted, call it what you want." She pauses, I wait but she looks at me. "Your turn."

"I thought there's more." Today was indeed enchanting. I clear my throat. "I'm the boy with luv, it's in my DNA. You're the girl of my dreams, euphoria, my universe." You're right to think that it's Red. She's in front of me or beside me with the starry milky way around us.

"Wow. Those words can melt your heart," Betty says.

"Like butter?" Red chuckles.

"Melting your heart like butter...Hmmm. Did it melt yours, Red?" I look at her, anticipating a yes but she blushes instead. Make-Red-Blush-Mission accomplished.

"Why ask me? I didn't send a message to Cupid Santa?" Red fans her face using her hands and avoiding my gaze. So adorable.

"We're descending," Betty says.

"Just asking," I smirk. "You're my universe right now, literally." And figuratively speaking.

We stop in front of the window of Red's bedroom. The same spot where we picked her up some hours ago.

"Thanks Betty. Goodnight Butter." Red says, unfastening her seatbelt.

"Goodnight Red," Betty says.

"Wait," I'm quick to grab her hand. "No kiss?"

She gasps at my blatant statement but eventually pulls her hand away. "Stop teasing me, Butter."

"I don't."

"You mean, you're serious."

"Uh-huh."

She blushes again but quickly jumps out of the car and into her room. "Goodnight."

My laughter resonates, hoping her neighbors won't hear me. "Goodnight Red. I will have that kiss soon."

With that, Betty closes the door and zooms towards my place. Moments later we touch the ground and drive to the parking lot. "Goodnight Betty."

She makes a yawning sound. "Goodnight."

I remove the key and walk back to my room. Luckily, no one sees me, otherwise, it will be one hell of an explanation. Maybe I could say, I'm working as a part time elf in the Christmas Tree Farm. It isn't a lie, although, maybe in the real Christmas place, the North Pole.

My eyelids are heavier when I open my bedroom and I climb up on the bed kicking my shoes and tossing my hat somewhere.

🎅

"Jimin, Jimin! For fuck sake, wake up!"

I open my eyelids to see Max, the villain in slumberland. "Go away."

"Yes. I'm leaving 'coz I'm running late." He turns around but yells again. "Prepare to explain to our prof."

Shit! I get out of the bed immediately and dash towards the toilet. After taking a quick shower, I grab my black denim jeans, a black jumper and a black leather jacket.

I am putting on my black leather shoes when the elf hat catches my attention. I thought I wore it last night. Did I fold it neatly and place them back inside the box? As I am recalling what happened last night, my phone buzzes. It's Max. "Shit shit, my class."

I grab my bag and car key before running as fast as I can to the parking lot. When I reach the college of engineering building, I see the girl-in-red wearing red sneakers and running on the street while combing her hair.

Well, aren't we soulmates? I chuckle before rushing to my class. It's 10:30, meaning I really have to explain to the professor why I am half an hour late.
