The Outsiders: Dally's Point Of View

Chapter 1

It was just another boring day, not much happens on the east side of town. Right now I'm just sitting on a roof when all of a sudden I hear Pony yell. I can't tell whether it was for me or Darry, probably Darry. When I look over to where the scream came from I see those damn Socs jumping him. I jump down and head over to help.Two-Bit is the first one there then Steve and Soda jumps over the car and Darry shows up right behind us. As I'm chucking stuff at the Socs car all I can think about is Johnny. I hope the Socs didn't hurt him again or I will personally hunt them down and hurt them worse. I head over to the Curtis brothers house to wait for them. Darry, Soda, and Pony all walk there together. After Darry heads inside I walk over to Soda and Pony. "How's the kid?" I ask calmly.

''I'm fine" Pony replies, "what are you doin out of the cooler?'' he asks.

I was about to answer him when Steve walks up.

"Ya well what you doing walkin by your lonesome on the streets, huh" Steve asks angrily.

"None of your business" Pony says quietly.

"What do you mean none of my business, it is my business look at my nose" Steve says, very upset. I swear he was gonna hit Pony till Soda pulled him back.

"It's huge" Pony replies, kinda scared.

At some point while they're arguing Johnny and Two-Bit show up. Johnny walked up behind me. After they finish arguing I look at Steve and notice Johnny is no longer behind me. I start to internally panic.

Then Pony says "I thought you were in for 'bout 90 days Dal".

"Ya I got out early man, good behaviour" I reply as cool as possible.

I looked around for Johnny and noticed him standing over by Soda. "Hey Johnny man how's it goin bro" I ask him.

Johnny is my favourite of the gang. "Things would go a lot better if the socs stayed on their side of town" he replied.

Steve pipes into our conversation. "Don't you worry Johnny we'll have it out with them sooner or later."

"That's right, especially if they keep coming over to our side of town," Soda added, sounding kinda mad.

Soda and Steve walked off. "Those the same guys who jumped you" I ask Johnny.

"No, no it was some other guys," he says quietly.

"Hey, I'm gonna make it my business to get the guys who did that to your face" I say determined. I'm very protective of Johnny, he's like the kid brother I never wanted. I don't know why but I have always felt a protective instinct over Johnny.

"Hey Pony what do ya think of me becoming your personal bodyguard" Two-Bit jokes, trying to lighten up the mood.

After that I ask all the guys, but Darry as he already went inside, who wants to come with me to the Dingo. "Two-Bit you wanna, Johnnycake you and Pony want to join me" Soda and Steve are headed out with Evie and Sandy, their girls.

"Sure me and Johnny will come" Pony answers.

"Eh if I don't get too drunk I might swing by"Two-Bit adds.

After I leave the Curtis brothers house. I go to Bucks for a beer and to get ready for the Nightly Double. Buck Merril's my bud. I pretty much live at his place.

"I'm back" I holler as I enter Bucks.

"Keep it down would ya" Buck hollers in return.

"Sure, ya hungover again" I say walking into Bucks room.

"What do ya think" he asks, looking at me sternly. I nod.

"Ya still havin that party later" I ask getting out a cigarette.

"Yup" he says "You coming" he asks.

"Maybe later, I'm going to see a movie with Johnny and Pony."

Buck shakes his head. "Man you and those two kids" he says.

Later I meet up with Johnny and Pony. I'm waiting for the boys on a corner. Just before they show up I pull out a cigarette and light it up. "Hey what's going on Dal" Johnny says.

"What's up"Pony asks.

"We're early" I say to them

"What do you want to do" Pony asks me

"Nothing legal man let's get out of here" I say walking away as they follow me.

We go to a dinner we're we find Bill. A fight breaks out and me and the boys watch till the fuzz shows up then we leave.

We head over to the Dx. "Hey Soda here come the hobos" Steve says

"Hey Sodapop" Pony says when we reach the Dx.

"Hey I ain't got no cash" Soda says. 

I joke about buying a windshield wiper then Sodas tells Steve to give us the money. I think he did it to get rid of us.

"So what's the movie about" Johnny asks I put one arm around him and fake hit him on the head

"Ow Dallas" Johnny says. " Huh" he says, asking me again.

"I don't know John" I say. "One of those beach movies, you know they put out a whole bunch around here" Then I stop and look in a window, debating whether or not to steal something but Pony and Johnny already walked on so I don't.

Then, as we keep going we spot a couple kids playing with cards. "Hey, did I say you could play on my grass" I ask them.

"No" they reply quietly.

"What are you doing here,give me those cards" I say, taking their cards.

"You guys ever played 52 pick up" I ask them

"Yeah" they say sassing me.

"What, hey don't get thinking wise, I don't like little kids I don't like them I just" I say dropping all the cards.

"Get out of here or I'm going to kill ya" I yell. Then chase after them and the boys follow me.

"Sky's getting dark let's go" I say kinda out of breath.

"Let's go man" Johnny says.
