The SandWing Stronghold was far away from Kite's home, but she was almost there. Dragons traveled between palaces all the time, in this peaceful age. Kite's talons thumped in front of the guards.
I'm going to visit an old friend, she thought. Or friend-ish. A sort of slightly friendlike dragon that might have forgotten me.
"Halt!" one of the other guards said. The other one giggled under her breath.
"I told him not to say 'halt,'" she whispered to Kite.
"What is your business here?" the first guard snapped.
"PLEASE! Act normal," the second guard whispered, and something clicked in Kite's memory.
"Hi, Snake," she said with a grin.
"Oh. Hi, Kite," Snake replied.
"What are you doing here?" the first one growled. Snake rolled her eyes.
"I'm here to visit Princess Blister," Kite hissed confidently. "Is she here?"
"Yes," the first one said, "You may see her." Snake collapsed into laughter. Kite walked through the enormous palace gates. She'd been here before and knew the way to Blister's rooms, if nowhere else.
She raised her talons and knocked on the onyx studded door.
"Who is is," a bored voice said from the other side.
"It's me, Kite, your friend," the SkyWing replied.
"Kite?" Blister asked, "Come on in."
The SandWing was perched like a statue on her bed, the black diamond patterns along her spine and wings were prominently displayed. She had her bored expression on, but Kite could see in her eyes that she was happy to see her friend. She thought. Maybe Kite was reading into that. After all, it wasn't like Blister to be happy.
"First of all," Kite began, "I know you're planning to rob your mother's treasury."
"How do you know that?" Blister demanded.
"You're not as subtle as you think you are," Kite explained.
"Okay," Blister hissed.
"And there's something I need from it," Kite finished.
