Phoenix POV

We land in Italy and get off the jet. All of us have a rather grim look to us as we head into what could very well be our deaths. These are the two most dangerous men in our organization and we have to assume they knew we'd be coming. Two men don't just fall off of the face of the earth and reappear so conveniently.

It's a trap.

But it's also our only shot.

We all decide to head up to the hotel and sleep one last night and head out first thing tomorrow morning.

"See you in the morning, Tommy." I say as he enters the room next to ours.

He gives me a small smile.

"I better not hear you guys fucking. I swear I'll move hotels."

We laugh and enter our room, but something feels off between us. Glum. Down.

I finally can't stand the obvious tension and speak up.

"What's going on?"

"I don't want you going tomorrow."

Both things are said at the exact same time.

"Oh." I say looking down.

His words spark something in me that makes my anger flare.

I went through just as much as he did. This kill is just as much mine as it is his. I'm not sitting on the sidelines.

"No, Nikolai. I'm going. I have my own vengeance that I want. That I need. It's unfair for you to ask me to sit out." I snap. His eyes match mine in defiance as we stare each other down.

"I can't focus if you're there. I can't afford to make mistakes because I'm worried about you." He states bluntly.

"Why the fuck would you have to worry about me? I think I've proved myself enough."

"I can't help it, sweetheart."

"And why's that?"

Beat his ass to prove a point.

On it.

"Because I love you."

The simplicity of his words hit me.

He says it like it's a matter of fact. Like it's not debatable.

He crosses the room and grabs my hands. He looks down at me with nothing but adoration in his eyes.

"I have no doubt that you could beat their skulls in and I swear that once they're secured I'll get out of your way, but please baby. Please do this for me? I can't see you hurt anymore. I can't hear your screams again."

He says the last part while looking down at his feet in a low whisper.

My heart melts as I know I'll give him what he wants.

"Okay. But you guys are wearing cameras and I'll be streaming it from nearby."

He snaps his eyes back up and nods.

"Thank you, beautiful."

"You'll find a way to make it up to me." I say with a wink. He smirks and nods.

...

The next day we head out to the building. All the surveillance is set up in the van as Tommy and Nikolai get prepped.

"Guns?"

"Yes." They say in unison.

"Vests?"

"Yes."

"Knives?"

"Jesus, yes Phoenix. We're ready." Tommy says.

Ass.

We all stand and look at each other for a second.

"Well. Bring it in guys. Don't make it weird."

They're going in alone. Too many men and it would've been way to conspicuous. Plus, these men are into mind games. It wouldn't be an all out brawl. It'll be a game.

I don't know which is worse.

They step in and we all hug. It's awkward at first, but as the reality of them maybe not coming back sets in, we all relax.

"Don't die on me." I whisper.

The pull away and Tommy wipes a stray tear.

"Allergies." He mumbles as he turns his back towards us.

Nikolai steps towards me and I grab his face.

"Do not leave me here alone, Nikolai. You already tried once and I died. Please. Come back to me." I say as tears gather in my eyes.

He dips his head and kisses me.

"Always." He says through a clenched jaw. I kiss him again and he straightens up and heads out the door, before he does he turns to me one last time.

"See you on the other side, sweetheart."

With that, they're gone and headed in.

I rush to the cameras and check the feed. Each of their cameras are strapped to their chests.

"Y'all here me?"

I speak into their earpieces.

"Yes. Now be quiet." Tommy says harshly. I forget how serious he gets during missions. Like he's a whole other person.

I watch as they head into the building with no guards or anything.

Something's wrong.

Yeah.

"Guys, this is way too easy. Be careful."

I hear hushed agreements as they head into the dark building, guns drawn.

They make it a few feet before Tommy's camera points at Nikolai. He wears a confused expression.

They turn to continue when the lights bang on, temporarily blinding me.

"Guys?" I shout.

Nothing.

"Guys!"

Then it starts. An ear splitting sound rings through the monitors. It's so goddamn loud that I nearly shut off the sound. I press my hands to my ears.

The cameras finally adjust and I'm met with an image that makes me wish the cameras had stayed off.

Both boys have fallen to their knees with their hands pressed firmly to their ears. Blood seeps through them as the scream into the floor.

Tommy's camera slowly pans up to an all to familiar face wearing an ugly sneer.

Gonzo.
