Fire's Infection

Letters

Kai's POV:

I had woken up with a small headache, and I was also in the med-bay. I remember what had happened, and my side and head was still soar due to the impact with the dumpster when Nya was thrown my way. I remembered the fight, and how I was given something with a syringe by the hooded guy I was against. I took my arm out of underneath the white bed sheets, and looked at the bottom skin near my wrist. My arm was swollen, red, and it looked absolutely horrible.  

I wanted to get up, but I felt too tired. I went to get up anyways, but my legs felt numb from me knees down. They must be asleep, just gotta keep them straight right now. Then as I looked to my side, I saw two envelopes right next to me on-top of the side table. They both were white, both with no name except for mine on the front. I picked them both up and sat up in the bed. I placed the one in my left hand on my lap and opened the letter in my right hand. I opened it up to read Lloyd's name on it. 

As I read, I thought about each sentence and each word. They were so heartfelt, I didn't even know he felt this way about me. When I was done reading, I slowly reached for the other letter. I opened it, not knowing who's name would be there. Yet there was no name, I continued to read the mystery love letter. As I read, it was heartfelt like Lloyd's, but it was more passionate. It talked about past missions, whenever we were close, and even recent things that had happened. Then as I reached the end, there was a name written on the bottom. 'Sincerely, Cole'. is what it read. 

I was overwhelmed, I didn't know what to do. I never felt anything like this towards Lloyd, but deep down I had felt something like this for a long time towards Cole. I didn't want to say anything though, so I put the letters back  inside the envelopes, and kept it hidden under my pillow. I would just say that when I woke up there was nothing there. I didn't want to choose Cole and leave Lloyd feeling alone, I would hate to be put in that position. 

It had been around an hour since I read the last letter, and my legs still felt numb. I was a bit anxious about it, It wasn't only numb, but I couldn't move them. Just as I was about to call for Zane, he walked into the room himself. 

"How are you feeling Kai?"

"I'm doing fine...but there is something that is really bothering me Zane...I can't feel my legs?"

"Hm? They are probably just sleeping."

"They were numb over an hour ago Zane!" I screamed out, "Sorry Zane...I didn't mean to lash out at you-"

"It's fine. Let me check out the problem." Zane said as he walked to the bottom of my medical bed. He lifted the sheets to the top of my legs as he examined my legs. He just stood there looking in shock.

"Zane, what's wrong?" I got no response back from the ninjroid at my feet.

"ZANE!" I yelled. I guess it was too loud since everyone came into the room. Cole, Lloyd, and even Jay and Nya. The door was behind Zane, so when they all entered the room they could already clearly see my legs. 

"Kai..." Nya said as she began to cry, and Jay covered his mouth and left in a rush as if he was about to get sick. I was confused, "Your legs are burned Kai..." Cole finally said breaking the silence in the room. "What...?" I said a bit shocked, I sat up more and looked at my legs. No wonder I couldn't feel or moved them, they were burnt. Burnt really badly. 

"Kai, did you somehow burn yourself by your fire?" Cole asked as he came up to me looking worried. "Would you do this Kai?" Lloyd said as he went up besides Cole. "No! I would never do that! Why would I? And I don't remember burning myself, I would have noticed!".  

"Come to think of it, I did realize that Kai's pants were burned when I was bringing him onto the bounty, but I thought that was from all the fire he does since that was his usual outfit he used. I just brushed it of as damage overtime." Cole said as he starred at my burned legs. "How would I not have noticed!" I said loudly, practically screaming. The others knew I was just getting more worked up over it, then I saw as Cole's eyes quickly looked over to where the letters were left behind, then looked back over at me with a flustered face. Crap. Lloyd saw and did the same after looking to where they left the letters. 

"Let's just let him rest, please. I will get some medicines, creams, and bandages." Zane said as he signaled for everyone to leave. When they all left, Zane looked at me with concerned eyes. "Kai, do you know anything that would explain why you didn't feel yourself getting burned? Your element may be fire, but you are still capable of being burned when you are not controlling it." Zane said as he walked over to the top of the bed where I was. 

"Come to think of it, during the fight the person I was fighting did inject me with something from a needle..." I said as I trailed off. That must be it! Obviously because of my swollen arm, why my legs feel weird, and why I didn't feel it! That has to be it! It was the only possible answer-!

"Kai!" Zane said as he snapped me out of my thought, "I've been repeating your name, is there anything other than your legs that have been affected?" Zane said with a little bit of worry in his voice. I nodded as I lifted up my gi sleeve, revealing my wrist. It wasn't swollen anymore, but looked burned from that small given area. It was also looking bruised and bleeding a lot. I didn't feel it bleeding...I didn't even know...! How was it swollen a few minutes ago but like this the next, how...how...how...how...how...how...HOW!?" 

I was breathing heavily, I couldn't catch my breath. Then I felt Zane shaking my shoulder.
