Three days. Three days since it happened. He still couldn't quite find the strength to move. He felt so numb. He could never have imagined something this painful would ever happen to anyone, much less himself.
Someone stood in the doorway. He didn't want to know who it was. They didn't stay there long, eventually leaving and sending the room cascading back into darkness.
He could hear them talking to someone else just outside the door.
"He needs to move."
"He doesn't want to."
"Yes, but he needs to. It's been two days since you found him."
There was a long pause.
"Do you have any idea what happened?"
"No. All I know is that whatever it is, it damaged him. I fear he'll never be the same again. There's something. Something in his eyes that isn't there anymore. God, I just... I hope that one day..."
"One day what?"
There was silence. And the silence filled the room and stayed there for a very very long time.Fingon was walking down the street with a wide smile on his face. It was a good day. His friends had just gotten together after months of him working his hardest for them to confess their love to each other. He had just gotten a raise at work and his brothers were coming to visit soon.
He was walking down the street when it began snowing. He gasped and looked around as flakes glinted in the city lights, each one shining gold, blue, and some even pink. As he continued walking, he grinned. It truly was a beautiful day.
As he walked past one of the nicer restaurants in the city, he noticed someone sitting alone, but looking around as if he was waiting for someone. A waitress came up to the redhead and said something, probably asking if she could take his order.
Reading his lips Fingon saw him say "Not yet, I'm sure he'll be here soon."
The way she walked away he could only assume that this wasn't the first time he had dismissed her.
After a moment of watching him, Fingon decided to do something bold.
He walked into the restaurant and sat down with him.
"Sorry I'm late, traffic was insane and Cindy kept us late."
The redhead just stared at him for a moment, not knowing what to do. He was extremely stiff, his hands perched on the edge of the table.
"Whoever decided to stand you up was obviously a jerk. I'm Fingon."
The redhead proceeded to stare at him before saying, "Maedhros."
Fingon smiled and soon the waitress came back and asked if they were ready to order.
"Uh, yeah. I think I'll have the chicken Alfredo and sweet tea, what do you think?"
Maedhros sat for a moment before responding, "Um, I'll— I'll have the same. And w-water to drink." His sentences were very choppy and quiet. Fingon began to wonder what he had just walked himself into.
"So, Maedhros, how did you and this other guy meet?"
He hesitated before responding, "Online." His voice was deep and smooth, reminding him of melted chocolate.
"Oh, yeah, I hate meeting people online. It never seems to work out, they always lie about something."
Maedhros was quiet and he simply stared at the table.
Fingon didn't know what to do. This guy wasn't cooperating even though he was trying to do something nice. It was a quiet dinner and at what became the end, Fingon really began to realize that maybe this wasn't such a good idea.
Maedhros was reaching out for the salad dressing at the same time Fingon was when their hands touched. Maedhros immediately recoiled his hand and pushed himself back in his chair. His eyes were wide and he seemed afraid.
Not the usual reaction he thought.
"I'm— I'm sorry I can't— I can't do this Please forgive me." He shot to his feet and started towards the door.
"Can I help you?" the waitress asked as she came up to the table.
Fingon hesitated, should he go after him, should he let him go?
After a few second of deliberation, he went with his gut.
As he stood, he took out a few bills and set them on the table.
"Keep the change." he said.
He ran out of the restaurant searching for the stranger when he spotted him quickly making his way down the street. Fingon ran after him, and when he got closer he began to shout his name.
"Maedhros! Maedhros! Maedhros, please!"
Finally the prodigiously tall redhead stopped and looked at him.
"Good lord, did you now hear me? Either way, I can't think that I'm that awful of a dinner partner. Was it something I said, something I did?"
Maedhros quickly shook his head, "No, no, it's not you. It's... it's something that... happened a long time ago."
Fingon reached out and set a hand on his arm. Maedhros immediately jerked it away and snapped "Don't touch me!"
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to I was just-"
"I'm sorry too," he interrupted him. "Please it's just.... look I appreciate what you did I just... That was my first date in three years. I thought I was ready but I was wrong. I'm sorry to disappoint you."
"You didn't disappoint me, I'm just confused."
Maedhros stood for a moment, the snow falling around them shining in the light of the storefronts. Fingon couldn't help noticing how well his grey eyes complimented his lighter complexion. The dark green sweater he was wearing beautiful complimented his long red hair and despite the fact that he was slouching he was still exceedingly tall.
"Is there any chance we could at least exchange phone numbers? I would like to see you again."
Maedhros looked at him for a long moment before he nodded. Fingon grinned and pulled out his phone. He pulled up contacts and handed his phone to the other.
Maedhros put in his name and phone number before handing it back. He gave a small smile which Fingon returned before saying goodbye. As he walked away, Fingon smiled to himself. Though he had been a little unsure, he had a feeling that this was going to be one of the best decisions he ever made.~~~~~
Ayyy, I'm back.
