Five years ago..........................

The war in the North was over. On the way to the capital the Emperor who was only 20 years at that time met with an ambush. The young Emperor who was returning after the victory over the barbarians was seriously injured. Out of all the people who accompanied the emperor only one bodyguard was alive alongwith the emperor himself. The bodyguard had no choice but to settled down at the physician home in the nearby village to treat the severely wounded Emperor.
After a week later the Emperor was finally awake.

"Xue Cheng , where are the others?"

That was the first words that came out from the young Emperor's mouth after he regained his consciousness.

"Your majesty, only us two are alive. The others, they were killed by the assassins. "

With teary eyes the young bodyguard who was at the same age with the Emperor responded. He was sad and broken over the death of his subordinates but at the same time Xue Cheng controlled himself. Life and death were inevitable. It's not something we humans can decide.
As an imperial bodyguard he had sworn to protect the Emperor even at the cost of his life.

"Where are we?"

"Your majesty we're at Hua Village. This is Hua Village physician Li's home. For the passed few days Physician Li and his nephew had been taking good care of you."

Yu Han's pov ----

I was badly injured after they tried to assassinate me. It was Xue Cheng who brought me to Hua Village. During that time I could feel the panic and anxiety in my Bodyguard's whole person. It was rare to see him like that. During our whole journey to Hua Village I could barely stay wide awake. Fortunately , Xue Cheng found a physician who gave us shelter in his house. The physician was an old man in his late sixties but his medical skills were on par with the imperial physicians.
Thankfully he took care of us without any hesitation and other bad intentions.

Under his care, my wounds healed within a few days.
"Fortunately they were only flesh wounds" the old physician sighed.
I thought I was lucky too. I didn't expect my enemies to be so impatient and ambushed me on my way to the capital.
I had just been crowned the Emperor a few months ago but the number of assassination attempts were increasing in alarming rate.

The physician surname was Li.
The old physician lived with his nephew called Li Chen who was in his teenage years.
Although they were Uncle and nephew their relationship was more like that of father and son.
Sometimes I wish my father and I were this close but him being the Emperor was nearly impossible to be close with his children. He had a whole Empire to look after. But sometimes I wish he could at least care to be affectionate with his offsprings. That's just wishful thinking anyway.

My days in Hua Village went like this. Living in a village wasn't bad either I thought. If I weren't an Emperor I would had retired a long time ago and lived in a peaceful countryside. But as Emperor I was bounded  by duties and responsibilities. Old physician Li doesn't know our identities but he didn't care. He was an honest and upright man and his nephew was cheerful and lively. It was good  spending time with them. Xue Cheng would occasionally help them with the household works when he wasn't sending messages to the capital.

Xue Cheng and I spend a month at Hua Village but we always never went out. Xue Cheng won't let me go out eventough I was the Emperor I could do nothing but listen to him. I know my limits and my health was the most important thing. A country needs its ruler. If the pillar is broken then it will fall in no time. If my enemies found out I was recovering and not dead yet they will do anything to kill me. Right now we don't have reinforcement and just us two won't do. We waited until my brother send us reinforcement . When I get back the ones who tried to harm will definitely have no better ending. They must die.

That period of time was I met that little beauty. I still remember that day when Old Li's nephew brought home a ger. The little thing was hiding behind Li Chen when I saw him from the first time.
And that was also the first time I fell the coming of spring in my life..........
