"You leave her out of your prophecies!"
Gabriella Madrigal woke with a start, sitting up straight in her bed. The little girl looked around her bedroom, hearing the voices go from loud to quiet. Slowly, the curly haired girl slipped off her bed, and padded towards the door, gently opening it, and slipping down the hallway.
In the kitchen, stood Alma, Pepa, Félix, Juileta, Augustus, and Bruno. Alma stood over Bruno, who normally was a gentle man, though at the moment, he held a look of anger that could rival Pepa's storm clouds. Alma was looking at her son, her anger and disgust barely masked.
"You've done enough to this family!" Alma exclaimed. "First your vision of Mirabel, and her not getting a gift, and now, your dragging Gabriella through your nonsense too!"
"I don't have a choice on who is in them!" Bruno defended. "They just come to me!"
"Mama," Julieta tried to step in. "it's not his fault—"
Alma held her hand up, ordering her oldest daughter to be silent. Her eyes were cold as she stared at her youngest child.
"Pepa," Juileta said, turning towards her sister. "Pepa, you know it's not like that. You know he has no control over it."
Pepa glanced away, her jaw ticking. Bruno watched his older sister, his face falling when she shook her head ever so slightly. "You shouldn't have said anything, Bruno."
Bruno gave his sister a broken look. Ella's brows furrowed, looking at her mamá in confusion. Why was she acting so cold towards Tío Bruno? She was never like this towards him.
Julieta's eyes widened, and she looked between the two of them. "Pepa! You know it's not his fault!"
"Quiet!" Alma snapped. "I've warned you, Bruno. You—"
Ella flinched backwards, her hand covering her mouth as she watched her Tío Bruno swing his arm's around, his face turning even angrier.
"I've had it!" He yelled, his eyes flashing green. "I've had enough with this family! Always blaming me for everything that goes wrong! It's not my fault."
The only thing Alma said was, "You're father would be very disappointed in you."
Bruno took a step backwards, staring at Alma with wide eyes full of disbelief. He looked at his sisters, and then his brothers-in-law, before turning around, and walking away, making Ella scoot further to the side. The little girl watched as her Tía's eyes watered, and she called out, "Bruno, where are you going?"
The man ignored his sister, and continued walking. It took everyone a few seconds to realize what he was doing. Julieta covered her mouth in shock, trying to say something, but not being able too. Pepa's eyes widened, though she was frozen in shock as well. Alma, who was just as surprised, was the only one who could say anything.
"If you leave this house, you are dead to me!" Alma yelled, her eyes cold, though there was a part of her that was begging for her son to stay.
Bruno's eyes sharpened, and he whipped around, his ruana swishing around him, and his eyes flashing green once again. "I wish I was dead!"
Everyone stopped staring at Bruno with wide eyes. The youngest Madrigal triplet breathed heavily as he snarled, "It would be much better the being stuck here."
With that being said, he whipped around once more, and stormed out of the kitchen. Ella quietly tip-toed back to her room, peeking her head out of her door when she saw her Tío Bruno muttering angrily as her Tía Julieta chased behind him, begging him to stay.
The next morning, when everyone woke up, Bruno was gone, leaving behind the broken pieces of his family.
