"You seriously whined that much? Just because you kept getting clothes?" I laughed. Draco chuckled and nodded. "I mean yeah, I was six years old, I was expecting sweets and toys. Wouldn't you?" He said. I took a breath from my laughing. His question made me think. "Yes... sometimes. But my grandparents didn't have a lot of money while raising me but every year they'd get me a box of chocolates. It was my favorite one," I say.
Draco smiles at me. I can tell from the glimmering in his eyes that all he could think about was little me with a mouth covered in chocolate. I scoot in close to him as I felt a cold breeze brush up against my skin. It was quite cold out tonight on Draco's balcony. I took a second to admire the decorations. During dinner, Mrs. Malfoy was telling me how she loved to decorate during this time of year. She and I laughed at the fact that she admitted to being quite the perfectionist and never let Mr. Malfoy or Draco help out.
Draco had a string of red and green lights, mixed with white ones wrapped around the railing of his balcony's fence. In the corner stood a medium sized Christmas tree, to which I can tell had been decorated by Draco. For the two years we had been dating, the first Christmas we shared together I had gifted him a sweater that he wanted and a set of six ornaments. I loved arts and crafts so I hand painted the ornaments myself. Throughout the year, I'd randomly ask Draco what his favorite moments of us were and I kept it in my head.
I kept note of it in my notebook that he couldn't reading because I had put a charm on it that showed everyone a blank notebook. I'd take those said favorite moments and paint them onto the ornament. My favorite one is the ornament that I made inspired by a snowglobe. Inside was a tiny statue of me and Draco slow dancing on his sixteenth birthday party and when it was shaken, glitter and fake snow glimmered inside.
I could tell that that medium sized Christmas tree was not decorated by Mrs. Malfoy, but by Draco. Those six exact ornaments that I had gifted him hung on the tree surrounded with white christmas lights."Feeling cold?" He asks. I nod my head and laid it against him as he pulls me closer in his wool blanket. "Better?" He asked. "Much better," I say. I look up at the sky and admire the stars. They had a close resemblance to the christmas lights on Draco's tree. I close my eyes and take in the moment. That was until Draco jumps. "Oh! I almost forgot... I have something for you," He said. He turns the other way, making me lean forward and peer my head to try to see what he was getting. He pulls out a small velvet black box and opens it.
Inside sits a beautiful gold ring, embedded with diamonds. I was in complete awe. It was the most breathtakingly beautiful ring I had ever seen in my life. It was the type of ring that I could only see in my dreams. My hand makes its way over my mouth as my eyes are still set on the sparkle of the ring. "Y/n... This is a promise ring. Now, if I'm being quite honest I didn't even know what these actually were until I heard Weasley talk about it. I was asking them for gift ideas because I didn't know what to get you and he told me to get you a promise ring...
He told me that they're rings to symbolize your promise to love someone and I thought, oh, that's an amazing idea... so here we are," he says. I take a minute to take it all in. "Draco... this is beautiful... I don't know what to say— thank you," I say, still breathless. He smiles and takes the ring and slides it onto my ring finger. "One day, I hope to add our wedding ring on there," he joked. I laugh and shake my head. "Draco—" "Kidding, kidding... maybe," he winked.
I roll my eyes and laugh. "Speaking of... I also have something for you," I say. Draco's eyes widen. "Really? I thought I told you not to get me anything this year," he said. He did in fact say that, but I tend to ignore those words everytime he says them. "Yeeeah... you did, but hey I already got it. Accio broom!" I say. Before I knew it, a shiny handled broom levitates its way in front of us. From the side of my vision, I can see Draco's mouth drop.
"Y/n... this is a Firebolt, this is the latest Firebolt!" He exclaimed. Sure, he could afford something like this, but Mr and Mrs. Malfoy refused to get him another broom because he had broken his two previous ones. Draco didn't want to tell them the reason why he broke it, although I knew. Draco often feels bummed out because he feels he isn't as good as the other players on his Quidditch team, so he practices hard as much as he can. He's had a few accidents here and there and that's why his broomsticks break. He refuses to tell his parents because he didn't want them to believe he was awful at it.
"I love you so much, thank you," he said as he kissed my cheek. "Yeah, break this one, your ass is grass," I said. "Pft, there's no way I'll dare to," he said, taking the broom and admiring it. He stands up and leaves the blanket to me. I stand up, too, wrapping the blanket around myself. "Well, give it a go," I say. He smiles and mounts the broom. I watch as he steers off into the sky. "Please be careful, Draco!" I yell out into the distance hoping he can hear me.
I lean on the railing and watch as he has loads of fun with his new broom. Seeing him at his happiest puts a smile on my face and suddenly, I feel warm. I look at my ring again. It shined beautifully as the moonlight hits it.
