The whole day had gone by, and I didn't manage to sleep at all. The doctors kept coming in and checking on Aster because he hadn't woken up yet. I was sitting on a chair next to his bedside.
It was morning now, and of course I was worried but I was just happy that Aster was still alive.
The doctor came up to me and I stood up to face him, "Is he okay?" I asked.
"Right now he seems alright. The good thing is that he's still breathing."
"When will he wake up?" I asked nervously.
"I'm not positive. If things go fine then probably in a couple hours, but he could very likely be in a coma, we won't be sure until those hours go by. We gave him a heavy sedative so he's out like a light right now." the doctor wrote something down on his clipboard after checking Aster's heart monitor which was still beating at a slow pace.
"You should go get some food Mr. Hayez, take my word for it, he won't be awake at least for another three hours. Might as well get your blood sugar up while waiting." he gave me a small smile and headed out of the room, leaving me alone again.
I sighed and glanced at Aster, he was still motionless and pale. It disturbed me that he hadn't moved at all. I couldn't help but wonder what was going on in his mind right now.
I decided to go to the bathroom and clean my face and then maybe get some food.
I walked passed all the rooms till I came into a bathroom and went in.
Then I walked up to the sink and took in my appearance. My eyes were blood shot, my hair was messy, and I had bags under my eyes.
I ran my hands through my hair, then splashed some cold water on my face, hoping that it might freshen up my complexion a bit.
The coldness pierced my skin.
Well, it woke me up, that's for sure.
For the next few hours I stayed in the hospital. They were happy to give me some of their crappy food, which I gladly took, seeing as I was extremely hungry. Then I took a small nap in an extra room.
Normally I would decline the nap offer because it just felt wrong taking a nap in a hospital, with germs everywhere. But I happily accepted that offer too.
Once I finished eating and resting, I went back to Aster's waiting room. It had been three hours so all I had to do was wait.
The doctor told me that if he made even the smallest movement that I should press the button by his bed and they would come in and try to see if he was okay.
I sat there for what seemed like forever. It was really quiet, gave me plenty of time to think. All I honestly could think of was Aster.
Part of me regretted that I didn't do as many things with him that I could have.
Then the other part of felt guilty. Was it my fault that he was in this situation?
Actually.. The night before he seemed wonderful.. He seemed happy. Even though he didn't show it well, he definitely wasn't as depressed as before.
I reached over and grabbed his hand in mine. I let ran my thumb over the top of his hand. It was still smooth and delicate.
I kept thinking to myself that if he woke up, I would do everything with him. I would make sure he was happy, I would make sure he had all the love he needed.
My thoughts were interrupted; as I was caressing his hand I could've sworn I felt his fingers move. My eyes widened.
I quickly reached over and clicked the red button, before I knew it two nurses and the doctor were around his bed.
