Grief is part of life.

We grief ever since we're born and we don't even notice.

Ilaria was taught this since a very young age.

First, her grandfather passed away when she was nine years old. And no matter how much she screamed and cried, there's one thing she learned the hard way; death is inevitable.

There's a saying that goes you don't know what you have until you lose it. In Ilaria's case it happened differently, she knew what she had, it's just she didn't think she would lose it so soon.

Staring at her brother and mothers gravestones breaks her heart more than it already is.

In loving memory—

Is the only thing she reads over and over again. She can't even bring herself to read their names.

And out of all the good memories she has with her family, the only one she seems to always come back to is the feeling of remorse. Because he constantly gifted her bouquet of flowers.

On her first school day he appeared on her room with a single red rose. As each year went by the one single flower turned to two, three, four and so on.

No matter what he brought her flowers.

It had never struck her to gift him flowers until years later, tears running down her cheeks as she places lilies on his grave.

Charles presence is suddenly next to her. His arm drapes around her shoulders as she leans on him, silent tears running down her face. He more than anyone understands how she's feeling, yet there's this part in her that knows he doesn't.

He didn't have to experience the impact. He didn't hear them screaming and crying in pain. He wasn't conscious enough to remember their lifeless bodies.

Charles doesn't have to live with the burden that he could have stopped the accident if she would have shut up for a few minutes.

"Is time you let the past go, Lils" he whispers, placing a sweet kiss on top of her head."I know is hard, and it feels like you're forgetting about them. But you won't get to live your life because of it"

A chocked sob escapes her mouth as she fully turns to hug Charles by the waist. Crying her heart out while Charles tried his best to not cry himself.

"I'm sorry for the way I treated you" she finally gets off her chest the heavy feeling ever since they fought.

"It's my fault." He murmurs against her head. "I thought that—I thought that you being here like before meant that we could be together again. I thought things would go back to normal, and I'm sorry about that"

"You're my best friend. I don't know how could ever I willingly leave you" Remorse is a feeling Ilaria has become used to, along with grief. Yet when looking up at Charles sweet eyes all this terrible feelings and thoughts are gone from her head.

"I'm sorry too"

Charles spent the rest of the day with Ilaria. Walking around and constantly buying her food to cheer her up and make her forget for at least a few hours.

Unfortunately he had to leave at six in the afternoon because he promised to take out his girlfriend on a date. Ilaria could only smile while she send him off to enjoy his night.
