Although she lived her whole life in Monaco, constantly seeing celebrities and enough wealthy people to end hunger and poverty in the world, she never got excited about it until she met Sebastian Vettel.

It wasn't even because of Charles that she met him, it just happened to be the most bizarre experience in her life.

She was buying bread her grandmother had asked for when she accidentally stepped on his foot when walking out of the small coffee shop. It struck her how she's never had the opportunity before to speak with him after Charles had taken her on many Formula 1 reunions, but now it felt different.

"I know you" he is the first one to speak before she could apologize.

"I'm so sorry"

"It's alright" he dismissed. "But I know you, I'm sure I've seen you before" Sebastian stared at her with his blue eyes, eyes she couldn't stand to look at because the color would remind her of her mother. "Tell me I'm not crazy" he said with a laugh.

Ilaria laughed, still not believing he is willingly speaking to her. "I'm Charles' friend, you probably recognize me from him"

Sebastian stared at her with a smile, motioning to keep walking because they were standing in the middle of the doorway, "Right! You are Ilaria, the ex"

At this she snorted, whatever Charles ever said about her must have stayed in these drivers minds. "That's me I guess"

"Sorry, I apologize if it makes you feel uncomfortable but Charles couldn't shut up about you when you broke up with him" Sebastian chuckled, remembering all the times the team had to shut him up. "It's nice to finally meet you"

"I'm a huge fan"

"I know" he crossed his arms.

God how she wished she was older to be a close friend of him.

They moved a little to the left of the sidewalk so people could come in and out of the coffee shop. "I'm sorry for your loss" he suddenly said causing her eyes to slowly water as he spoke, "Charles told me everything at the time, it must have been hard"

"It's been a while" she managed to say. "I guess with time you start to move on"

He nodded. "Well, I won't keep you much longer. It truly was nice to meet you"

"And you" she shyly said. And you? What the fu—

"Hopefully I'll see you again"

"I'm sure Charles won't be able to get rid of me"

He smiles again agreeing with her before returning to the coffee shop.

Ilaria started to walk away slowly, not believing the conversation she had.

"You are such a gossiper" is the first thing she tells Charles when he stops by on his morning run, watching her struggle with the boat. "You told Sebastian Vettel, THE Sebastian Vettel, about my mother and brother? Dying!? Oh you little piece of—"

"It was hard for me too you know" he softly said interrupting her.

Ilaria stops whatever she's doing, leaning on the side of the boat to stare at Charles.

"I had just lost my father and then you went through a much worse thing than me, I loved you, and so it hurt me too" he explained. "I was close to your family as well. It was hard for us too... and knowing how tragic it all was"

Ilaria nodded, swallowing thickly. She can't possibly be over their deaths, but she learned how to understand and control her emotions.
