Cocoa and Petal🌸🍫
Mackenzie's pov-
It was a typical morning for me. I got up at 5:30 to collect all the eggs from the hen house, I milked 5 cows, mucked out Tiggy and rode her for a bit.
I was texting Eva, my best friend, and we had arranged to go shopping. So I was currently getting changed from my flannel and shorts and into a pair of skinny acid wash jeans, a black jumper with a white Adidas sign and black trainers with the White tick to show they were from
Nike on the side.
"Dad" I called from upstairs in my shared bedroom.
"Kenzie, if you want to talk come down stairs." my Dad shouted back up the stairs.
I let out a sigh and walked downstairs.
"Please can I-" I was interrupted by my Dad saying,
"why aren't you dressed in your farm clothes?"
"Because I was going to go shopping with Eva." I answered his question.
"Did you not hear about the cattle? A walker came through the field the cattle were in and left the gate open. So now we have to round them up" my dad said in his Texan accent.
"Okay, daddy. I will go tell Eva I can't make it" i disappointingly spoke.
"Thank you, Kenzie. Can you also please tell Laura to get out of bed?" My dad asked
"Your welcome and sure" I softly replied with a smile at the end.
If you didn't know before, Laura, aka Loopy Loo, is my annoying twin sister...
You would have thought that by the age we are now we would look a tiny bit different but we don't. The only difference there is, is that I have long, straight, brown hair with blue and green eyes and she has short, straight, brown hair with green eyes.
"Bog roll, get up" I sung whilst smacking her with a pillow.
"Stop calling me that" she said whilst rolling off her bunk and falling onto my bottom bunk.
"Ouch" she whispered into my pillow.
"Now is not time for laying in bed, bog roll!"
"STOP CALLING ME-" Laura was interrupted by Brooklyn speaking with a serious attitude.
"If your gonna argue, take it outside!"
Brooklyn then left with a confused sigh and I burst out laughing.
"But seriously, please don't call me that!" Laura spoke as my laughing died down a bit.
"Sorry" I replied.
Once we were all dressed and ready to go, I hoped into the back of the red Chevy pickup that dad had recently bought.
In the inside of the car was my dad, who was driving, my sister, Laura in the middle and Brooklyn to her other side.
As we had just left our farm a boy with brown hair, brown eyes and a tan was walking down. I got into a different position seeing as I was just lying down with my legs in the air. The mysterious boy put his thumb up for a lift and my father stopped. It was quite unusual that Dad stopped seeing as he disapproves of 'non farm folk' should I say. Basically dad wants his daughters to be farmers wives and his sons to carry on the oh so enjoyable trade of farming. Note the sarcasm.
As the boy stopped, Brooklyn rolled down the window and told him that if he could help us round up all the cattle then he could have a lift. The mystery boy agreed and hopped in the back as Brooklyn rolled his window back up.
"Hey there beautiful, what's your name?" Mystery boy softly spoke.
"I'm Mackenzie, but call me Kenzie." I replied in answer to his question.
"Hi, Kenzie. I'm Cameron, but you can call me Cam." he told me.
"Hi Cam" I lightly chuckled
"What's so funny?" He asked me.
"Your wearing white converse" I laughed out.
"So, your wearing tan boots!" He said with a confused questioning sound at the end.
"We are rounding up cattle. that means there is bound to be cow poo and mud everywhere you step!" I told him honestly.
"Oh, uh do you think it will stain them?" He asked worriedly.
"Naa, stick 'em in the wash. they'll be grand!" I said.
He chuckled a bit
"What?" I questioned with a grin for in on my face.
"Naa, stick 'em in the wash. They'll be grand!" He said mimicking me.
I laughed back noticing how Irish that sounded.
"Here, you can borrow my brother, Charlie's boots." I told him whilst handing him a pair of boots that were similar to mine.
"But won't he need them?" He asked me.
"he isn't here, so I'm guessing not.😂" I laughed at him.
"Oh, okay. thank you Kenzie" he thanked me.
I nodded my head and said "your welcome"
The rest of the ride was quiet. Not awkward, but peaceful.
We got to where the cows were and hopped out.We all, except Cam, started tapping the cows on the bum in order to make them move.
Cam looked confused but he caught on pretty quick.
Maybe too quick because he gave this one cow a good slap and it threw her back legs in the air. Cam got really creeped out but tried to hide it. obviously not that well because everybody was pissing there selves laughing apart from Cam, whose cheeks started to go red.
"Ignore them Cam. It's happened to all of us here" I lied trying to make him feel better. Everyone, apart from Cam, looked at me with a confused look but carried on anyway. I saw one cow and hopped on her back to get a better view as I heard another cow in distress.
"Dad, we have a cow going into labour at the very front of the herd." I said whilst hopping off the cows back.
"Okay, you go and so can Charlie seeing as your both amazingly fast runners" Dad replied.
"Charlie's not here but Cam will come. you guys keep herding them up" I spoke back
Everyone said okay and I grabbed Cam's wrist and dragged him to the cow.
"Have you got any gloves?" He asked
"You don't need gloves" I laughed whilst rolling my sleeves up.
What I did next was, quite frankly, gross.
I shoved my hand up were the calf was due to come out and felt around to see how many calves there were.
"Will you go get some straw please?" I asked Cam as he just stared.
"Uhhh, sure." he replied
When he came back, I pulled the first calf and out it came.
I pulled the second and dried them both with the straw.
"I name this one cocoa and Cam, what do you wanna call the other?" I asked him
"Um, how about Chloe?" He said dumbfounded
"Ahaha, I don't think my sister would be happy about that!" I told him.
"Sorry! I didn't know! How about Petal?" He questioned
"It's okay and sounds perfect!" I said.
We smiled at each other and stared into one another's eyes for what felt like a lifetime.
We were brought out of our gaze by my dad closing the gate with all the cows, apart from Cocoa, Petal and their mom, Rosie, inside.
We put The three cows in the back with me and Cam.
"So where was it you wanted to go?" My dad asked Cam
"I can stay back and help with the cows if you would like Sir." Cam replied.
"That would be awesome, thanks, uh, was it Cam? Cameron?" My dad said questioningly.
"My names Cameron, but call me Cam." cam grinned.
"Nice to meet you Cam, I'm Ed an this is my daughter, Laura" he spoke while gesturing towards bog roll.
"This is her twin, Kenzie. but I'm sure you two have already met" Dad spoke whilst pointing to me.
"And this is Brooklyn, my eldest son" my Dad told Cam.
"Nice to meet you all!" Cam said.
"You did some nice work out there, you wouldn't make a half bad farm hand. if you ever need a job, you know where to come!" My dad said to Cam.
"Thank You Sir! I'm sure I will take that offer up!" Cam replied as my dad started to drive.
