Narrator's POV:
"Ok... Let's open this door." Mirabel whispered, looking over to her cousin. Camilo nodded, turning away and looking at his sister and grinning. She let out a quick hum in surprise when Mirabel opened the door in a hurried motion. The hinges turn uncomfortably making an irritating squeaking noise as it fully opens.
The trio stopped for a second, contemplating whether to go in or not. It seemed that if they did, they were doing this. They were planning to do something about the mysterious villain plaguing their town. The villain that had powers just like they did. Just like the Madrigals.
They were terrified to think it was someone in their family, well that used to be in their family.
They stepped through the threshold of the room and upon entering, the three felt a gust of chilling wind brush by them. It came from the room, deep within the pitch-black room. The darkness only further unsettled the three Madrigals.
"Maybe...!" Dolores piped up, clutching her hands to her chest and somewhat freezing on the spot.
"Maybe we should head back now. We've been in... her... room now. So-so we can go back. Let's go." She spoke, her voice lowering as her sentence came to end as she made her way to the door."We can't Dolores. We have to find evidence about her. Maybe we can defeat her and make sure our family and the town will be safe." The bobbed haired woman spoke, determined as she pushed her glasses up her nose. She moved forward slightly but came to a sudden pause when the shapeshifter voiced his thoughts to the two of them.
"Defeat her? Are you kidding me! We can't defeat her!" Camilo yelled in disbelief, almost laughing at his cousin's ignorance and naivety. He stepped forward grabbing onto Mirabel's arm and making his way back to the door, where Dolores stood still by."She left this family for a reason, Camilo!" Mirabel raised her voice, his hands not letting go of her forearm and hers clasping onto her satchel in frustration trying to pull against his grip. She dug her heels into the wooden floor and grimaced as she tried to yank her arm free, more frantically. She didn't want them to fight, not right now when their family needs them.
"It was probably this family that drove her away! Maybe it was Bruno or Abuela. They probably pushed her away! They are probably the reason that she's gone and that she's now out for this family!" Camilo shouted, throwing his hands up in the air, letting go of Mirabel's arm as his breathing intensified. His cheeky and light-hearted attitude wiped away. For once he was serious, but when it came down to his family's safety he could be the most serious one in the room.
"Camilo?" The non-special Madrigal spoke, trying to attain his attention which turned up unsuccessful as he just turned his back to her. Shaking off the feeling of being ignored and hurt, she decided to convince her other cousin. Turning to the stilled figure of Dolores, Mirabel murmured her name to get her to look at her and not further into the dark obis of the room.
"Dolores," she began, inching closer her hands in front of her, open and welcoming as if to ease her fellow family member. Taking in a large gulp of air, Mirabel continued in a rush of words.
"You want to maybe, stay and investigate this room with me to save our fellow Madrigal as well, right? So we can have lodes of girly sleepovers and talk about boys and so you can have a sidekick to help fish you out a good husband? Right...?" Mirabel rambled, taking in another massive inhale as she tries to recover from her speedy speech. Scanning Dolores' facial expressions, which were very limited at the moment and skimming from eye to eye.
"You want to save the town, the family... don't you?" The young Madrigal urged, pushing her cousin even though it seemingly did not affect her. Dolores stayed perfectly still, a statue that you wouldn't even know was a person if it weren't for the rise and fall of her chest as she took in oxygen.
The tanned woman sighed to herself, looking down in disappointment before taking a glance at Dolores, she couldn't help but self doubt herself but also hope...
She didn't just want to save her family and the town. Mirabel wanted to properly meet Lucia and maybe... maybe even save her like she saved Bruno."I told you. Now, let's go." Camilo firmly stated, staring at his cousin and walking closer to the exit.
"No! I'm not going, Camilo. We can't just leave. It's like we're giving up on her and even saving everyone.""Mirabel! Come on be realistic. What do you think is going to happen if you get to Lucia and capture her." He stated agitatedly, bawling his fists up and then unclenching then, in a repeated motion.
"What! That you're going to braid each other's hair and make empanadas! No! Of course, you won't!" He yelled at her, his breathing seeming to burn his lungs and further irritate his mood."We can't do anything, Mirabel! We are children. We can't save anything. Especially, Lucia." He finished, whilst staring at Mirabel, maintaining eye contact with her. But that inky seemed to infuriate Mirabel more as she verbally exploded.
"We have to Camilo! For our family! For the town! FOR LUCIA!" Mirabel screamed, screwing her eyes shut in annoyance. Her clenched fists seated at her side Camilo's come back was cut off when they were all blinded.Lights.
Everywhere. Lights. The sudden exposure to bright lights caused the trio to squeeze their eyes shut and turn away. Dolores let out a surprised yelp, covering her eyes with her hands whilst Camilo flipped over his ruana (a ruana is the name of a Columbian poncho thing, it's what Camilo and Bruno wear, there's some knowledge for ya)
to throw it over his face, pivoting on his heels to turn away and Mirabel scrambled around with her glasses as she knocked them off of her face and was juggling them in her hands, trying to catch them with her eyes tightly shut. All of them attempt to avoid the sudden luminescence of the once dark room."Woah! That hurt." Camilo joked, gradually pulling down the piece of clothing material that covered his face prior and letting his eyes adjust.
"Yeah... How the heck did that happen?" Mirabel asked herself but soon dashed those thoughts as she looked around the now glowing room. The colours in the room were mostly gold's, Auburn and bronze. The room was illuminated by candles that sat upon golden, slightly rusted holders, a couple of inches away from the walls. They lined the pale yellow walls as they lead down a long hallway. Wooden beams were built through the walls as if they were pillars that connected to the ceiling and supported old fashioned supporting beams. (Like old Victorian houses, where they had the wooden beams on display but they were built into the wall if you get what I mean) An old and massive door blocked their view any further. The group looked around further, catching the canvased portraits and images along the walls, in-between each candle and the detail, that they resembled the Madrigal family. Alongside the framed pictures, dangled paper cutouts that looked shabby and uneven. They hung from the wooden support beams by string and carried on down the corridor. The paper designs were colourful and some wear shiny, they were in various shapes, such as hearts, stars and letters.
"Woah. Woah! Are you seeing this?" The ruana wearing male exclaimed, somehow completely forgetting the gravity of the situation at hand. Scanning over the various objects and styles of the room, that the entire family, well younger generation, were dying to see.
"I can hear something." Dolores piped up, staring down the hallway and to a door a little ways away from the group.
"It's..." She started, hushing her voice as she thought for a second and hurridly chirping as she realized what it was.
"It's paper's turning... A book?" The young woman started timidly, self-doubting her conclusion."Paper?" The other two Madrigals questioned, looking to one another and then to the door that ended the hallway.
Dolores hummed in confirmation, turning to the oak door and making a slight noise of surprise as she heard her mother shouting their names.
They all snapped their necks to the wide-open door and froze as they heard someone storming up the steps. With an actual storm upon their head."Uh-oh..." Camilo exhaled shakily, wide eyes scanning the door. The door was wide open.
That was it, if they got caught then they wouldn't be able to leave casita until they were 40."Mamá and Abuela are gonna kill us..."
