Narrator's POV:
When Mirabel screamed it alerted the other two almost instantly, turning them away from their panicked frenzies and looking in the direction Mirabel was staring hopelessly at.
"Wha- What's going on?! What is that?" Camilo yelped, he took a couple of steps back before he followed the massive, growing state of the... water...?
That spun around them. He planted himself, firmly, in one spot just staring helplessly at the last crack in-between the water before it got sealed over.Camilo gulped, looking around searching for another exit, a gap, a chance they could run through the rushing water, anything. But as he pivoted he saw no sign of an exit, the running walls around him were so thick he could just about see the distorted and blurred vision of the rest of the room that they were now cut off from. Dropping his head, he saw the sand below begin to dampen and lazily spin in a faint tornado as the water rushed with such intensity it caused the sand to follow.
Letting out an aggravated sigh, another option, a very unlikely option, popped into his head. If they can't go under it and they can't go through it... maybe—just maybe—they can go over it...
And...
"Ah... No..." He groaned, the boy stood on the tips of his toes as if that would give him the much-needed height to see the level at which the water came to a stop. But alas from his perspective the watery walls seemed to touch the ceiling and if not they were just skimming them. Now he was starting to worry, he's never really been trapped in a situation that could be dangerous enough to risk his life and two of his beloved family members.
Shaking out some of the sand that had collected in his puffy hair, he let his mind run wild as he turned to his cousin and sister. He gave them both a once over, from their attitude to body language, poster, facial expressions... everything and in Camilo's opinion they didn't look very comfortable. If anything they looked unsettled, ready to leave this place as soon as possible. If... that was even possible anymore...
"This room sure is something... Isn't it, heh...?" Camilo chuckled, attempting to lighten the mood and take the girls minds off of the serious situation at hand for even a second. Clutching his yellow ruana, on the left side of his chest close to his heart, trying to ease his nerves but as he did so he could feel the thumping of his heart, which worried him.
Dolores could hear both Mirabel's accelerated breathing and Camilo's uneven and erratic heart beating.
The constant bounding against his ribcage irritated him beyond belief whilst he tried to concentrate and calm down, trying to keep as calm as possible as not to worry the others or to set off a momentary glitch in his gift.
Mirabel on the other hand was... not doing so well, Dolores looked at her and noted down her condition. Sweaty palms, twitching eyes, dry and raspy breathes, all of which concluded that Mirabel was close to having a panic attack.
"Mirabel...?" The unexpected and hushed voice startled the young brunette, she spun around on her heel, meeting Dolores' gaze. The only response the gifted listener got was a stiff nod, but the short term distraction seemed to calm her down enough for her mind to stop, her body and brain to relax.
"...Yes?" The Madrigal answered, her voice anxiously high pitch and somewhat tense, but the soft sound of her voice calmed Dolores' worries for her cousin.
"Are you alright?" She responded, realising that the more she spoke the lower her heart rate got, which she was thankful for. She doesn't think she could handle someone passing out on her in this crucial moment of need."I'm- I'm fine... Dolores. Thank you." She breathed, nodding her head to show her appreciation physically.
Dolores tried to block out the constant sound of rushing water, but soon gave up and Mirabel noticed soon after once she asked a series of worried questions with no response from either sibling. Mirabel was now even more anxious, they needed to get out before something bad happens, like Dolores' powers driving her crazy. The last time that happened it was a metaphorical and literal nightmare. It was a couple of years back, but enhanced listeners senses were overwhelmed with a massive town party that got too wild and out of hand. It lead to some of the family having to come back early with her and settle her in bed and even after she was tucked in and asleep she was having nightmares. Possibly still hearing the loud noises from the party, almost on the other side of town. But then again her abilities are more of a curse than a blessing in her opinion.
