Chapter 0 8

Macy
THE SISTERS STEPPED BACK and looked in fear at the approaching Esmeray, who had evil grins stretched across their faces, their eyes shining with malevolence. One of the Esmerays (a small, plump one) came up in front of them, his black shadow mask covering his identity. "You have defied our... assistant queen..?-" he said in a confused voice and turned to the other Esmeray. Macy looked at her sister in confusion, who shrugged. "Second in command," he said, in a slightly more sure voice. At the girls confused faces he added "We're not really sure what to call her. But that's not the point!", it was clear he was using a voice changer, for there was no way a body that little could produce such a loud and deep sound.
Macy could picture her little 2 year old cousin Berto Del La Rosa with a deep voice like that. "Now you shall pay the consequence." He (not Berto, the Esmeray) pointed his gun towards them. "Defy, and you die." They all chanted. It was all very confusing, Macy wasn't sure if she should be scared or laugh. Then, as one, all the Esmeray pulled their triggers.
Sophie screamed and dashed behind Macy, but there was no point, as the Esmeray surrounded them completely. 12 black vines came at them. If you didn't know they were real, they'd think that they were shadows.
Sophie, suddenly feeling like a hero, pushed her sister aside, and got hit by the shadow vines and started to get pulled into the shadows themselves. Macy screamed in horror while the Esmeray laughed in malice. Sophie was being pulled into the shadows, her legs disappearing into nothingness. "MACY!!" Sophie screamed. No. No. This could not be happening. She had already lost her mother and father, she was not gonna lose her sister too. "SOPHIE!!" she shouted back, amidst the laughter of the Esmeray.
Throwing herself forward, she grabbed her sister's hands. Sophie screamed, so then Macy screamed and then they both screamed together, their screams mingling with the Esmeray's shouts of laughter. The shadow started climbing up Sophie's back and soon her waist and below was gone, enveloped in the shadows, off into the inky darkness.
Macy felt tears prick her eyes, and even though she couldn't see it, her eye colour changed like a wavelet, from her normal, meadow green, to an intense, aquamarine blue.
She couldn't lose Sophie, she couldn't! Her mother and father were gone, either dead or lost. She couldn't lose her sister, even if she hated her. Even if Sophie was a sexist, annoying, two faced person, she was still her sister. If Sophie died, who would she argue with? She loved coming up with fun insults. She needed her older sister, even if she tried not to admit it.
Suddenly, there was a great burst of bright light. It engulfed the Carson/McLane sisters and all the Esmeray were thrown back, their heads hitting the ground at the same time, emitting a loud bang.
What the heck was that? Macy wondered. She heard a loud groan and saw her sister rubbing her legs, a frown on her pale face. Macy looked around again, and saw that all the Esmeray (except the blue skinned woman - where was she?) were lying sprawled on the pavement.
"What did I do?!"Macy said. She hadn't done anything! If Sophie hadn't been an idiot and started an argument everytime something happened, she would've been fine! "It was you who started arguing with me, you who always wants to control my life, you who always butts into stuff that doesn't concern you and it was you who wanted to play hero! So don't blame me because this isn't my fault!
Sophie stared at her, openmouthed. "Well, at least you didn't have to watch your legs disappear and not be able to feel them!" She exclaimed indignantly. "I sacrificed myself! I saved your legs! - er life! You should be thankful!" she added.
Macy couldn't laugh. She was busy glaring at her sister and didn't notice some of the Esmeray stirring. "I saved you, ok! I did something, I pulled you out, so your 'sacrifice' cancels out!" "We don't know if you made that light! Stop trying to be the hero! That's me!" Macy scoffed. "Oh yeah! You're the hero! You're also the one- '' Sophie cut her off. " Who taunted them?"
Macy glared at her, the blood on her face from the fall standing out clearly. "I didn't taunt them!" she said, glowering at her half sister. Before she could continue, however, she felt a tap on her shoulder.
A girl about 8 or 9 years old looked up at her. She had short, wavy, muted purple hair with a streak of bright red in her hair and lilac skin with a couple of purplish-reddish beauty marks on her right cheek. She was wearing a black cloth (made of a shadowy looking substance), which was draped over her shoulders like a shawl and almost touched the ground. She also wore a very muted tan tee with 'Cruxview, North Maplehollow', written on it using bubbly, colorful letters. (Cruxview was where all the Roonian celebrities lived. Roons was the country where Macy and Sophie lived.) The girl also donned a pair of black jeans. There were subtle touches of color in the girls outfit, like red and blue jean pockets, which at first glance, no one would notice. She almost looked like a child version of an Esmeray.
"Who are you?" Asked Sophie fearfully, taking a step backwards.
The girl beamed at her. "I'm Belladonna! And I'm a good person!" she said brightly, grinning from ear to ear, but suddenly her smile vanished, replaced by a scared, dark look. She looked over her shoulders and then back at them, the fear in her eyes clearly visible. "You have to go!" she urged anxiously, looking at the Esmeray who were starting to awake. "They're waking up! Please, go! Before my mom comes!" "Who's your mom?" Sophie asked, but before Belladonna could reply, she gasped. The lavender hair and lilac colored skin was a dead giveaway.
Belladonna nodded. "Yes, my mother is Tempest. Well, her actual name is Skia Persefoni, but everyone just calls her Tempest," she said. "Because when she's mad she's like a raging storm." Belladonna explained.
Macy frowned. Who were Skia and Tempest? "Who?" She asked.
Sophie turned around, an incredibly annoyed expression on her pale face. She was looking at Macy like a dumb five year old, and when one comapred Macy's intelligence to Sophie's, Macy did seem as dumb as a five year old.
"Skia was the blue-skinned woman. How could you not realize it?" She asked, albeit rather rudely.
Macy shot her half sister a dark glare. Why did she expect her to just know? Just because Belladonna had purple hair and skin, didn't mean she was the blue-skinned woman's daughter! Well she was that that wasn't the point!!
"Why should I know she's that woman's daughter just because she is purple?" Macy asked angrily.
"It's common sense! How could you not make the connection?!" Sophie replied, giving her one of her trademark 'you're so dumb why, I even wasting my time' looks.
"How could you not be a nincompoop?" Replied Macy indignantly. "Oh wow, you expanded your vocabulary, do you think you're Albert Einstein now too?" Sophie rolled her eyes, placing a hand on her hip and doing a stereotypical mean girls pose. Macy lunged forward, planning on punching her sister, but Sophie just moved to the side. "Wow, you're so good at fighting, are you going to 'Roons lamest people Competition'? I bet you'd win!" Sophie taunted. Macy clenched her fists, seriously getting mad. Sophie laughed. "Your face is as red as blood! Getting mad there sis?" Sophie grinned evilly. "You should work on your anger issues." Macy was about to reply, when she felt a tug on her hand. She looked back and saw Belladonna looking up at her. The fighting sisters had completely forgotten she was even there.
"Yes?" Macy asked, looking at the young girl. Belladonna's purple eyes were staring right at the 13 year old girl. "Miss Macy, they're waking up." The little girl said, pointing to the Esmeray who were warily blinking and rubbing their eyes. Sophie came to stand beside Macy, and opened her mouth to say something when she felt a sudden mist on her face. One glance at Macy and Belladonna told her they felt it too. Belladonna was looking at the Esmerays in fear. "Oh no.." she whispered. Suddenly, the Esmerays were knocked aside by 2 blasts of water. Skia had arrived, and she was mad.
