PRESTON
~*~*~
The moment I woke up, I was on my feet. I didn't waste time to hop in the shower and get myself clean. Once I was dressed, I shook the young man in my bed, grinning to myself as he moaned his protest. But this wasn't a day for protest. Today I had serious business to attend to.
"Come on, Lex. It's time to get up. Big day ahead of us," I cooed into his ear, kissing along his jaw. He was up within seconds, rubbing himself against me like a needy kitten. Hmmm.. Kitten, yes, that's Alex. A feisty kitten. My feisty kitten. The mere thought made my cheeks heat up and I turned away so he couldn't catch me blushing. Now was not the time for a boner. There was a certain piranha under my roof that I had to take care of, to make sure Lex stayed safe.
"Up and at 'em, Lex. Get dressed, cutie. We're going to be having guests very soon." I slapped his rear for added affect, reveling in the little squeal he made as my hand made contact with its target. Then I was out the door, keeping one hand to the wall of the hallway, and squinting as I came up to the stairs.
It was a bit of a struggle walking down the stairs on my own, probably because I was so used to having a guide, but I had decided overnight that I wanted to be stronger for Alex. Especially with this threat looming above us. So, one step at a time, literally. I was trying to gain my independence from support to find my way around. So far, it was going rather well.
I stepped into a less disheveled living room and sat at the only clean seat there, away from the wreckage opposite where I was. Only a few moments went by, and Alex appeared in the archway.
"Lex, come here," I beckoned to him, but he didn't move. Worry set into my gut, and I stood from where I sat, walking over to where his form was. "Lex, what is it?"
His arms snaked around my waist and he pulled himself up against my side, like he was trying to hide from something. Or someone. Just as I had guessed what it was, he spoke the answer I had in my head. "Sara's walking up to the front door," Alex replied, rather muffled due to his face being buried into my chest. Out of instinct, I pushed him behind me and went to reach the door, but it opened before I'd gotten to it.
The familiar smell of my grandmother's perfume wafted over the entrance way, and I had to force myself not to scrunch up my nose in distaste. Sara always smelled like an old woman.
I knew when she'd stopped moving because she'd shut the door, and just as she'd turned around, a surprised yelp left her. Probably because she didn't imagine we'd be standing right in front of her when she walked in.
"Mr. Larks, you surprised me," she said in a breathy tone, probably holding her hand up to her chest like most women her age did when they made a dramatic scene. I just rolled my eyes at her behavior. Of course she would be playing innocent at this time. I wasn't going to have it. I could hear Alex shuffling nervously behind me.
