"No, baby, not yet."

My heart sank as Preston spoke, and I made no move to struggle as he gently scooted me off his waist.

How did I know he'd reject me.

"I'm not making love to you on an empty stomach, Lex. Come on, we're going to eat."

I was surprised, to know a grown man like Preston cared for my health so much. Nobody ever had, except maybe Katrina.

I felt the tears start to flow before I could stop them, and then I was sobbing.

Preston's arms were around me in seconds and he pulled me against him. I laid my head against his chest and let out all the pent up emotions. "Shh, baby," he pressed his lips to my ear, "Let it out. I'm so sorry."

I lost track of time after that, but eventually I calmed myself. Preston rubbed my back and placed kisses over my face until my tears had dried.

"Come on, muskrat, let's get you some food."

After throwing on a pair of Preston's boxers and a big shirt of his, I led Preston down the dark hallway, down the stairs and into the kitchen.

"Alright, what would you like to eat?" Preston sat me at the island, and made his way to the fridge.

"Are you sure you can see all right? Do you need more light?" My worry got the better of me as Preston rummaged through the fridge aimlessly.

"I'm not completely blind, Lex. Tell me what you want."

I sighed and went through a list of groceries in my head I knew we had. Finally, I shrugged my shoulders and said, "A ham sandwich is fine."

"One ham sandwich coming up!" Preston barked enthusiastically. My spirits were slowly lifting as I watched him gather the ingredients, humming along as he worked. He struggled a bit, finding the proper ingredients, but I was proud to see in the end, he'd gotten all the right ones, with a little direction from me, of course.

I offered to help, but each time, Preston only cooed more encouragement at me and told me just to relax.

Oh, I am so the woman in this relationship, but this is shocking.
