1. Regular morning routine.______________________________________
"Are you going to wake up or should I call our family priest for the inauguration of such a special moment? " The woman shouted from her second house, the odorous kitchen.
Opening my eyes, I take time to adjust to the beam right on my face and look at the clock to spot the time "5:30 a.m.".
"Coming!" I retorted back while rubbing my swollen eyes and sitting up mumbling, "Why don't all the bad guys take tuitions from moms? They're professionals."
"Haven't heard from you again. Are you dead?" She said summoning me again. How much time passed since I answered her? 5 seconds? I check the clock on my bedside table again to be sure and no, it has been 5 minutes.
Ok. Now I get why she shouts that I'm always late because I don't realize the time flying away."You wish." Mumbling, I get up from my first love, my soft bed, and take the first steps of this regular day, towards the mirror hanging from the white-plastered wall.
I am not surprised by looking at my reflection in it but if anyone else would have been here, they would be terrified of the way I look in the morning. Especially, after the whole night's hard work. I've been preparing for my 10th Boards like any other Indian 15-year-old kid and I'm quite into the dream of passing it with flying colors. Once done, I'll think about other things ahead. But for now, it's my only goal, and it's quite good to have only one specified aim to focus on clearly.
And now, after brushing and washing my face to not scare my mom out of her wits although she's quite used to it, I head towards the only voice calling me out this early.
Entering the living room, I glance towards my birth-giver, my almighty mom. She is a woman in her mid-30s, a housemaker, and our only hope of having food every other day. Well, she is sarcastic and I have a humorous yet serious relationship with her.
"What took you so long? Were you exercising? Studying? Freshening up? Or gunning your eyes with your mobile rays again? " She asked continuously without filling her lungs with air even for a second.
But first of all, how did she sense me coming in here? I tiptoed to my best.
Seriously, mothers have so many senses that we can't even count. Six senses are way too little to start with."Wait, wait, wait. Take a breath, Mummy. You're going to pass out like that. How can I do these many things in just some minutes? Can you?"
I stated irritatingly. It happens always. She assumes me to be a superhero and I can't live up to that."You've been up for an hour for all I know. And I can do this all in 5 minutes. You just have not seen me." She replied coolly.
"Who said that? I've just woken up by your screams that I get like a necessary vitamin daily. And you won't be able to do all that in 5 even if you try excluding exercise." I countered her with facts.
Freshening up takes time. I don't know about anyone else but I have to clean up well to look normal. It takes at least 10 minutes.
"Try me." The only words she said in reply to my factual lines. Gathering up myself, I back hug her, to which she shows reluctance but gives up eventually.
"No, I won't. Now, calm down and tell me the menu." I said lovingly.
"Do you think of this house as some kind of restaurant and me as a chef?"
She asked without minding much."Yes. Totally. Whatever you cook is the best and it tastes better than any fast food. "
"Stop being this cheesy and help me in here so that we can wrap up early for you to make it to school on time." She voices out while cutting the onions on the wooden cutting board.
"Surely." I started helping her to cook and grind vegetables. We're a vegetarian family ( but can eat eggs) so, I'm used to doing this every day.......................
"Mummy, I'm going.!!! " I shouted standing in front of the gate with my bicycle all ready to go to school.
"Okkkk... Take care..." She says while struggling. I know her enough to know that she must be frying something with oil to sound like that.
After getting my reply, I paddled hard to reach my destination as soon as I can. If we keep the traffic aside, it takes 20 minutes to reach there at full speed and if I'm lazy someday it would take 30-35 minutes. Depends.
Avoiding crashes with other vehicles somehow, I finally saw the building getting nearer. I stop with a full press on my brakes in front of the CCTV camera fixed on the gate. I stepped in and greeted the staff who I now know just like my family members after studying here all my school years.
Heading towards the classroom after locking my bike up, I spotted a tint of light brown hair shining near the window. And at that very instant, I knew it was Saloni, my best friend.Tossing my bag at a side on my seat, I hurry up towards the cute small human standing by the window. Well, I'm not the one to call her short or small because I am the same height as her. 5 feet of height in the world.
That somehow bothers me but I keep it in the back of my mind and rush towards my caring girl."SALONI. !!! "
