" Hey, Miller and White! Coachella wants us to send extra EMTs for the second weekend. Do you guys wanna do it?" Said, Chief Michaels.

"I mean getting paid to go to a music festival and take care of drunk people . . . HELL YEAH! Are you in Charlie?" Said, my partner.

"I'm down. I'm going for the music and to watch all the drunk people." I said laughing.

" Thank you guys so much for doing this. I'll put in an extra bonus since y'all will be out all weekend. You two can have Monday and Tuesday off. No one else on the team wanted to be out there in the heat. Thanks, guys. Radio if you need backup today. Have a great day saving lives!" Said the Chief gratefully.

" Bravo 24 D-2 pregnant woman in labor, baby's head visible possibly life-threatening." Said the operator. As soon as I heard the call I immediately started running to the truck.

"Charlie you got this one! Due to lady parts! I'm driving!" Said Jackson. Jackson Miller has been my partner for three years now. We have already endured the craziest stuff together. We are an amazing team. He's a dope guy. We get to the scene and outside the Downtown LA house, I hear very loud screaming. Oh man, this could be very bad. Being an EMT is a very interesting job because you never know what situation you could be going to or what could happen. An African American man that looks to be in his late twenties possibly early thirties runs down the stairs.

"She's inside! Please come help my wife and our child! Please help!" Said the obviously distressed man. I follow the man running inside looking for the woman in labor. When I see her inside the bathroom I see her lying in the bathtub drenched in blood with the baby's head almost halfway out of her vagina. I was hoping that the baby would still be in enough where we could get her to the hospital to deliver but it looks like she is going to have to deliver here, Lord have mercy.

"Hello, ma'am. My name is Charlotte. My partner here is Jackson we are here to help you and your baby." I said calmly while putting on my gloves, prepping to catch the baby.

"Is my baby going to be okay??" She says very distraughtly. "We are going to do our best ma'am. It looks like we are going to have to deliver your baby here. The baby is coming right now! Get ready to push mama. I know you can do this. Sir has she had any previous complications with the baby?" As I say this Jackson gets her hooked up to the pulse oximeter and blood pressure cuff to see her heart rate and see what kind of oxygen she is getting.

"No ma'am we weren't expecting this at all. She was having pains but we were going to go to the doctor in the morning. Then, her water broke in bed and she started having contractions. as we started to get the bags in the car I could hear her screaming in the house in pain. That's when I called 9-1-1 for help." The man said distraught.

"Ok thank you for the important info, we need to start pushing right now ma'am!" I say sternly while moving to be in a position to catch the baby. She starts to push as hard as she can. We start counting altogether. Her husband squeezes in to hold her hand.

"PUSH! 1,2,3,4,5,6, relax. Breathe." I said focused.

"I CAN'T DO THIS!" She said defeated.

"I know you are tired emotionally and physically. But you have done so great. We will have this beautiful baby out within the next few minutes all because of you. You can do this mama; you are so strong." I said kindly. She nodded.

"Okay. Let's go!" She said confidently. "ONE TWO THREE PUSH! PUSH! PUSH! JUST LIKE THAT KEEP GOING, MAMA! PUSH!" I yelled. She was doing so well, a few more pushes and we will be done. "PUSH! PUSH! PUSH!" I encouraged. Finally, a loud cry was heard. An amazing sign.

I immediately put a random clamp from the truck on the umbilical cord. This isn't that common so we don't exactly have all the right tools, but we can get the job done. "Dad, would you like to cut the cord?" I asked happily.

"I would love to." He comes up to me and I told him where to cut it and he did so well. I gave the baby to Jackson to go clean off in the kitchen sink and I shifted my attention back to mom.

"I told you that you could do it." I smiled at her. "Oh thank you! Thank you oh so much! You are truly an angel. How could I ever thank you enough." She said gratefully while sobbing and pulling me into a hug.

"I'm just doing my job," I said. Jackson came back into the bathroom with the clean baby girl ready for skin-to-skin time.

"Alrighty, so we need to get you to the hospital still so they can watch over your symptoms and so they can make sure the baby is all good. From what we can see the baby is just fine and happy but we just need to get y'all seen by the doctors. Let's get you lifted up onto the stretcher and into the truck. Make sure to keep the baby on your skin and let the baby really bond with you. Dad, you are more than welcome to ride in the back with us. Jackson is going to drive us over. Alright?" I asked.

"Yes, let's get going." The dad said. The whole drive to the local hospital the mom and the dad were telling me the story of what happened before we got there. Soon we reached the hospital. As we got mom out of the truck to get her inside they wouldn't stop thanking me and Jackson. They were so happy and thankful, and I was too.

"Great work Charlie! That was wild! You were so good!" Jackson said excitedly.

"Thanks, Bud," I said still in shock.

This is why I do what I do.
