Chapter 3

As soon as we got to the truck I yelled, "JACKSON WE'RE HERE!" As soon as I said that he pushed the stretcher out of the truck. He ran out of the truck and around to put the legs of the stretcher down and lower it. "Alright, ma'am I'm going to lift you to get you in my truck so we can start the IV. Okay?" I asked. 

"Yeahhhhh," she said. Since she wasn't wounded I lifted her from Finneas' arms and booked it to the stretcher. Jackson lifted the back of the stretcher bed up so she could sit in a more comfortable position. I lifted her on, lifted the stretcher, attached to the tracks in the truck, lifted their legs, and rolled her in. I stepped up inside and immediately sat on the side of Claudia and started to feel her arms for a vein. 

"Sir, you can come to sit in the truck with us if you'd like," I said kindly. 

"Oh yes! Thank you so much, man." He said gratefully.

 "Of course. Thank you for your kindness." I said. "JACKSON! CAN YOU GET THE DOUBLE DOORS?" I yelled. 

"I got you, Lottie. You got this patient?" Jackson asked. 

"Yeah, I got her Jacks thanks," I said while focusing to feel her vein. Since she is so dehydrated her veins have contracted and gone smaller.

 "I'll leave the side door open. Yell if you need help!" He said. I couldn't do my job without him. I lifted her left hand after checking her forearms for veins and couldn't find anything. 

"Miss Claudia, I'm not finding anything in your arms, we might have to do an IV in your hands," I said. 

"What if you can't find a vein?" Asked Finneas. 

"No need to worry right now. We can insert an IV in the arms, hands, legs, and feet. We have plenty of space to cover to find one." I said trying to reassure them. I wish I could say everything will be alright but as an EMT we see so many crazy situations that, you never know what will happen. I searched her left hand; I didn't feel anything. I picked up her right hand and fell around. I poked and poked till suddenly. 

"I found one. Let's go for it." I said determinedly. Finneas sighed in relief. He must really love this girl, he is very concerned for her. In the golf cart earlier I could hear him talking to Claudia.

"I'm so sorry this is happening, babe," Finneas said to Claudia in response to her whining and crying. Finneas held her in his arms like a baby while we drove to the ambulance. Claudia had her eyes closed, visibly shaking and whining. "Am I going to be okay Finn?" She said scared. "I'm sure babe, you are just really dehydrated." He said with hope.

I quickly put on gloves, opened the Alcohol pad, cleaned the site, and uncapped my IV catheter. "Okay Miss Claudia, Once I get this IV started you should soon start to feel much better. I'm going to insert the needle, is that okay?" I asked with a smile. 

"yes." She said sleepily. I then pushed the needle in, left the plastic catheter tube, and taped it to keep it secure. I flushed with saline, then attached the IV tubing to Claudia. 

"Alrighty Miss Claudia, I have your hefty IV bag started I'm starting the drip off slow and I'll gradually have it going pretty quickly it should take maybe 45minutes to an hour. I want to try and get this whole bag in you so I know that you are hydrated. Before you go party again dear." I said concerned. She's gonna be alright. I started to document this incident when Jackson came to the truck. 

"Hey, Lottie?" Said Jackson. 

"Yes?" I responded.

 "Can I get alcohol pads, a water bottle, towels, gauze, and bandages?" He asked. 

"Woah yeah! Is everything okay? Need help?" I asked.

"Nah Nah Nah man it's all good. I got this patient." He said reassuring me.

"Okay if you need help just yell," I said. 

"You got it, dude." He said causing all of us in the truck to giggle.

"Wait, If you don't mind me asking. What's your name again? You look really familiar. " Claudia said. She seems to be doing better.

"Charlotte White ma'am but my friends call me Charlie and my family calls me Lottie," I said smiling. Finneas looked between the two of us very confused making me giggle. 

"OH EM GEE!! OH EM GEE!! OH EM GEE!! YOU'RE CHANNING'S LITTLE SISTER!! I TOTALLY KNOW YOU!!" She said happily.
