"Okay, I have supplies. We are going to have these men begging on their knees for us!" Rachelle announces as she bursts through my bedroom door.
"I've gotta go Tess," I speak into my phone, waving at Rachelle in greeting. "Chelle is here so we've gotta get ready, come visit soon, love you!"
"Love you too! Bye!" she replies as we hang up. It is now Saturday afternoon, the day of the dance. The day I have been looking forward to with a nervous anticipation. The week had passed easily, Nate and I had stuck to our usual routine of breakfast together then ice cream at the garage, just with a bit more physical contact; a kiss on the cheek when I arrive and leave, holding hands as he walks me home.
"How did you even get in?" I ask Rachelle as I turn to her, she is busy unloading all of her makeup and hair styling supplies onto the counter in my bathroom.
"Luke let me in, he looks very good in a suit by the way," she calls over her shoulder. "Have you showered?"
"Yes, I just need to do hair and make up," I tell her as I fish out my own makeup that is rarely worn.
"Don't touch your hair, just pin some strands back, but leave a few to frame your face. Your waves will look so good with that dress," she demands, pointing at the bobby pins she has laid on the side. "I'm going to put mine up in a twist, so you can see the back of the dress."
"Slow down, we have ages to get ready," I put my hands on her shoulders, staring into her eyes. "Take a chill pill."
"Okay," she takes a deep breath, relaxing as she does. "Do your hair first, then if you want I can help with your makeup. You don't need much, keep it natural." She tells me as she starts twisting strands of her dark hair back.
"I think I'm okay, what eyeshadow do I go for though?" I get to work, pulling some of my hair back, leaving a few face framing pieces, running a mouse through it to keep the waves frizz free.
"Light brown, with a little sparkle, it will really show off your blue eyes," she tells me as my phone goes off.
Nate: Do you or Rachelle have my tie? She never gave it to me. xx
"Chelle, do you have Nate's tie?" I call out to her from my bedroom.
"It's in with your dress," she tells me, as I walk over and find it hung in the bag with my dress.
Me: It's with my dress xx
Nate: Thank you, I can't wait to see you xx
Me: Me too xx
"What do you think?" Rachelle turns to show me her hair. It is up in an intricate braided bun, with a few small jewels spun into it.
"It looks great, I do not have the ability or patience for that," I laugh, standing back up to finish my makeup.
An hour and a half later Mom is knocking on my door, us having just finished getting ready. "The boys are here," she tells us as she pokes her head in. "Oh you both look so beautiful, those boys are going to eat their hearts out." As she steps into my room I can see her emerald dress, it's simple but hugs her figure with a gentle elegance, like Rachelle she has her hair tied back with slightly heavier makeup.
"You look gorgeous mum, did you do the boys ties?" I smile at her, as I turn around, remembering to pick up Nate's tie before I slip on my black heels.
"Yes, you'd think they'd have learnt by now," she rolls her eyes. "I bet one of us will still be tying them for them on their wedding day."
"Like Luke's going to be getting married any time soon," I laugh. "There's more of a chance of Charlie being the first to get married."
