Trying to avoid the questions Luke was throwing at me I climbed up to my room to call my college roommate, Tessa. It had been a rocky start but we were close friends by the end of the year, her determined to bring me out of my shell more.
"Avery! I have to tell you all about this guy I've met," Tessa was talking away as soon as she answered the phone.
"So I managed to make myself look an absolute tit and he still asked my stupid ass on a date." She was just finishing telling me how she met her "summer fling that would rival all summer flings" while in Miami on vacation with her parents, she was always much more confident with guys than I was. "So, what about you? Any cute southern guys?"
"Not dateable guys," I laughed, laying back onto my bed. "There is this one guy though. So I got home yesterday, my crazy ass mother sends me straight out the door for wine, this really cute guy helped me.."
"Oooh! Did you get his number?" She interrupts me.
"I was getting to that! There's more to it!" I insist, "so mom drags us all over to her friends for dinner with her family, and guess who walks in? Wine guy."
"No way! Did you get his number then?"
"Hush! So we all got talking and turns out he's a freshman at SCAD too." I finish.
"No way! What's his name?" If Tess doesn't know him then he's lying about going to SCAD, she knows everyone.
"Nathan, I don't know his surname or what he studies," I tell her before returning Luke's shouts saying that I already ate.
"Hmm, there's one Nate, tall, southern accent, quite quiet, keeps to his small group of friends, used to play football in high school I think," Told you she knows everyone.
"Sounds like him."
"He's really cute! Get your ass to his now!" She demands, always being the first to encourage me to step out of my comfort zone.
"I just got home from his T, if I go back he will think I'm a crazy obsessed stalker," I reason.
"Why was this information not made available earlier? Why were you at his? How long? What did you do?" She reminds me of Rachelle with all her questions.
"I had to return his shirt he lent me the night before, his friend and his girlfriend were there so he invited me to hang out with them, we just had lunch and hung out," I tell her, shrugging although she can't see me.
"He's got a girlfriend?" She sounds disappointed despite the fact that I have no intention of dating Nate.
"No, his friend's girlfriend, Rachelle. She assured me many times that Nate is single, even when I told her I don't want to date anyone at the moment."
"Who is this Rachelle? I must meet her, we could tag team you!"

I woke up to a text flashing on my phone.
Nate: Good morning, I'm taking Jenny and Meg (the dog) to the park and she asked if you wanted to come? N x
Nate: It's Nate by the way N x
I laughed before replying.
Me: Sure, meet me at my front yard in 15? A x
Nate: Can we make it 20? N x
I confirmed before quickly showering and getting ready, pulling on sneakers instead of sandals. I was about to walk out the door 20 minutes later when there was a knock. I opened it to reveal Jenny and Nate with a gorgeous black and white collie sat at their feet.
